Bell's Beer coming back to Chicago
Man, when are they bringing that stuff to LA? I would kill a man for an Oberon.
and I emailed Bell's and they said they could expand to California and make a killing, but want to keep it local. Spreading throughout midwest, but not likely to come out here anytime soon.
If you were resourceful, you could still get it. I can name 3 bars that still sold various Bell's beers during the "ban".
This is true. When I was in Chicago last weekend I ordered a "Kalamazoo Wheat" and the waitress asked the bartender for an Oberon. I asked "like WTF?" and she was all like "they have to sell it under a different name, but it's Bell's."
Place was Mack's (IIRC) in or around Wicker Park. I think. Near Damen and Division, anyway.
They pulled it right when I moved here. I've had a couple here and there, and I've enjoyed the Kalamazoo Wheat that they've been passing off as Oberon recently, but it will be great to have it back.
Brian is correct. Kalamazoo Wheat = Oberon. It is, literally, the same beer.
