BBall Recruiting - Michigan Makes Top Group for EM 5* Nimari Burnett
Full quotes concerning the goods guys (and others) in my article below
Seems like a nice kid and a good player.
I hope we get him. But let’s be real, even Beilein could make the top 12 for 5 star players. We will all believe when can get a McDonald’s All-American when it happens, and hopefully Howard is just the man to get one/many.
2019 goals: beat osu and get a McDonald’s All-American - just so we fans can experience what those things feel like
If Coach Beilein were still at Michigan, we would not be in Nimari's top 12.
Because of their well known disagreement over whether a hot dog is a sandwich.
Seems like a hot dog can be classified as an open face sandwich.
You shut your got dang blasphemous mouth.
Well, Teddy is right. Bonkers, I know! But yeah, a hot dog is nothing more than a (very) poor man's roast beef sub...
Matt D - I consider you an authority around here on college b-ball recruiting matters. Can you explain why you are certain that Burnett would not be including Michigan and his top 12 with Coach B around? I recall Coach B finishing second or third in a number of high profile five star recruits. The top 12 seems like a low bar...
Not going into specifics, He simply wasn’t as attracted to Michigan under Coach Beilein
I am not Matt and I don't play him in the movies. But PG was my position and I will pose this/my simple assessment: Beilein's system was an insult to a true PG. Nimari can play the position better than it can be coached-that is what his film says. Beilein would have insisted upon coaching/controlling him-to his detriment. Nimari is no dummy. I'll stop there...any explanation would require too much time and space for this forum.
I respect this opinion, and I am intrigued. But Trey Burke winning consensus national POY and going in the lottery with his recruiting profile proves that Coach B knew how to develop the point guard position. (Walton and Z are also shining examples)
Trey Burke was a helluva talent who refused to be restricted by the system-though Beilein did some ungodly stupid things to him. (If Nimari was aware of what Beilein did to Burke that would enough to never consider Michigan.) Walton was also an excellent player who, finally, after 3 1/2 years, said screw the system let's go win some games...the second half of the season he took over and did it his way...he led Michigan on a serious hunt for an NC-and it was too late for Beilein to do anything about it.
Z is not in this conversation-is not a PG. I don't know what he is-a disaster at the offensive end who has benefitted greatly by having outstanding talent around him to bail him out and give him very undeserving stats. Offensively he can dribble a basketball-that's it. Here, he does not have the talent to prove me wrong...a college guard without a jumpshot-you have to friggin be kidding me! Nunez, Wagner and Livers-Bajema?...at least three shooters had better step up big time this year or this season is going to be very ugly. (If Nimari was the PG this year Poole and Brazdeikis would be back and Michigan would be ranked in the top 5-maybe #1.) Just the facts.
You know, you probably have some very good, and reasonable, points to make. But... I can't with you. You tell us that the consensus PoY (Burke) was all but ruined because Beilein. You tell us that Walton decided to play for 3.5 years knowing full well he'd never win anything, until just one day deciding to actually, you know, start playing basketball again. You tell us that Simpson is a horrible player that has no business on a college team as a point guard. You imply that John Beilein was a bad coach that ruined college point guards.
Mr Curry, please stick to the NBA and leave the coaching of college players to college coaches. K? Thx...
It is sadly interesting how one allows a personal aversion to stand in the way of learning, knowledge and truth. Basketball, baseball and softball are three games that I know extremely well. Yet here most members prefer to defer to the ignorant press and PC coach speak for their information. As I often say, each of us are informed by our individual life experiences and there is room for legitimate and significant differences of opinion (even) among the informed. However, here, I happen to be one of the informed and there are tangible reasons for my opinions. You do not have to agree with me but you would do well to respect and consider what I have to say in this regard. Coaches are not perfect-we make mistakes-it's part of the game-Beilein is an excellent coach but has made aplenty too...and PG is not a strength of his. And at 66 years of age I have lost my filter-just the way it is.
Your takes are garbage.
Anyone can say "i'm an expert" anonymously on an internet forum.
Beilein has proved time and again he's one of the greatest basketball minds. You're welcome to provide some insights, but when you do so in such a blithe and insulting manner to the most successful coach if Michigan basketball history: It's not that you've lost your filter, it's that you are wrong.
Would be great to land this kid. Looks like he's got some Russ Westbrook in him with a better 3 point shot.
I am a fan of this kid-he is a joy to watch...this is how you play the game.
Most tapes are pretty worthless...not Nimari's. The depth of both his skill and understanding of this great game is eye-popping. You win national championships with a kid like this running the point for you-he is that exceptional. I like his note of relationship with Juwan...I guarantee you that Coach Martelli is drooling over the possibility of working with this kid.
Top 12? Am I supposed to be excited?
This is certainly good news. Looking at the other 11 schools, I only see a couple of the traditionally corrupt ones. The rest, I think we would stack up well against. Hopefully, JH can close the deal eventually. He looks like a perfect player for Michigan.
It only takes one corrupt school to steal him. I just hope the kid makes a smart decision
“I only see a couple of the traditionally corrupt ones”
Huh? Like half the schools on his list are known cheaters. Louisville, Oregon, Arizona, Auburn, etc are all sketchy
Yes, and I get the idea that he and his family aren't, which increases our odds.
Howard seems confident about the 2020 class. It might not be this kid but I think he knows something. Can’t wait for football and basketball season
Matt D, I know you actually know Nimari a bit on a personal level. Who do you think this comes down to and what do you think our chances are?
You are correct, I’m pretty close to Nimari’s recruitment and his family. Probably not a good move for me to speculate on his ultimate choice for that reason. Michigan is making progress under Coach Howard.
Can't really get excited until we are like top 5, but always better to be in than out.
Howard needs that 2020 domino to fall to get everything else rolling.
