Bar tailgating scene in Bloomington for Indiana game?

Submitted by HireWayne on November 15th, 2019 at 4:36 PM

Anybody know how far downtown Bloomington or other good drinking spots are from the stadium?

Any advice on parking?

Thanks in advance.

None of them are really walkable.

The classic spot is Nick's. The tap, Lennie's, and Quaff on are pretty good. Yogis just reopened under new owners and in a new location, so I can't vouch for it.

Parking won't be a problem. If you get in before 5 on Friday, go-to the box office for a discounted pass.

I now live in Bloomington, I'm happy to answer questions if you have any more.

If you are bringing the wife, check out an arts performance from the School of Music, it is one of the top two in the nation.

Two years ago we parked right across the street from the stadium at a church parking lot. I don’t recall getting there super early and we were one of the first few cars there and it was free!!!

The bars are a bit of a hike from the stadium.

Four years ago, I tailgated with some people from MGoBlog (something about an ambulance?) @Indiana, and it was GREAT. Very grateful to them.

Downtown isn't too far from the Stadium, but it still isn't close enough to tailgate and walk. Most IU tailgating takes places in the grass lots or frats right next to the Stadium.

Also, IU allows re-entry, so feel free to go back to your tailgate at halftime. At anytime, there are probably more people outside the gates than in the stadium.

Go to Nicks for a few hours for your bar experience, then tailgate in the fields across the street from the stadium. That’s where most of the heavy drinking is done (IU ‘10 grad here).
