I loved that event...it was my favorite event in college swimming.  Although, much to my chagrin, the 1650 (also referred to as "the mile") was my best event.  But the 500 was such a great race...

Disagree... I'm always excited about cool Michigan things whether or not it's related to the athletic department, or the colleges, or cool things alumni are doing which garners some kind of public notoriety.

In this case, seeing Michigan in first is awesome.  Adding sprinkles on top of all that Go Blue awesomeness is seeing sparty in their rightful place.

And to cap off today's swimming prelims:  THREEE, yes three, Wolverines qualify for the 50 free final.  A freshman qualified first!  This is truly remarkable, considering we were not known for sprint freestylers.  1-4-7  Mike Bottom effect.

We can basically put the dagger in tonight after finals - we're kicking ass.  Finals start at 6:30 CST tonight.

Isn't this a really young team? I remember seeing earlier this season that other teams thought this could be the year to knock off the wolverines? how do we look nationally?

Yes, the team is younger than it has been, but it appears that relative youth won't matter this year (at least based on today's prelim results).  We went 9 up/3 down (9 in the A finals and 3 in the consolation finals, while the next two best teams, Indiana and OSU both went 4/4.

Nationally, we are #5, but one never really knows what's really going on until the respective conference meets happen.  FYI, OSU is #8, Indiana #9, Wisconsin #19, Iowa #21, Minnesota #22 and PSU #24.

Not sure what the hell is going on - I think they are doing diving (1m finals now), and so we might squeak out more points in that (nix my comment above about diving).
