Article on Freshman Receiver with Michigan Offer from Chicago Area

Yesterday I posted a link to a Chicago Tribune article on 5 star QB prospect J.J. McCarthy. Later in the day, Trib reporter Teddy Greenstein put up a 2nd article, this one about freshman receiver Tyler Morris. My guess is the 2nd article wrote itself, after Greenstein saw Morris catching passes from McCarthy.

Here are a few quotes.

Tyler Morris already has been offered eight by Power Five schools, including Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, Northwestern and Illinois. And Morris is just a freshman.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Morris certainly looked good in a Monday workout while snagging passes from McCarthy as coaches from Texas, Tennessee and Iowa State observed.

“Tyler will be one of the best kids to come out of the Midwest,” said McCarthy, a five-star recruit in the Class of 2021. “Thank God I have him as a shadow. It will be a fun couple years here.”

McCarthy is visiting Ann Arbor, Mich., this weekend, fueling speculation he will verbally commit to Michigan. Wherever he chooses, McCarthy pledges to try to bring Morris too.

“I’m gonna get on him,” McCarthy said.

Asked when he thinks he will commit, Morris replied: “Probably after junior year.”

If you look at the video of McCarthy put up by Magnus (go to http://touch-the-banner.com/) one of the noteworthy things is not just McCarthy but the receivers. I didn't check all their uniform numbers, but if Morris is one of the kids catching passes, he and McCarthy are going to do a lot of good things at Nazareth the next two years. The sour grapes ND poster (about McCarthy and how ND recruited him) opines Morris will be a top 50 recruit by the time the services rank him.

It would invaluable to land a top prospect like McCarthy this early in the cycle and get him recruiting kids to come to Michigan. He seems like a rare kid, and this could be a building block to a great class in 2021.  Nice post, SRK.

*edit* - apparently per Sam Webb part of why he wants to commit early somewhere is to recruit the 2020 class as well as his own. Hope we lock him up.

Isn't teddy greenstein the journalist who wrote a one-sided piece slamming JH for pulling a scholarship on a player who didn't follow thru on the coaches requests for camps, etc.?

If so, FUCK YOU teddy!!!

Yup. Nazareth is becoming a major midwestern program, they recruit the best in the suburbs of Chicago, and unlike Mount Carmel, they run a very translatable offense. These kids are tough as nails, they compete, and they're not afraid to get down and dirty. Theyre not what you would expect out of a very affluent private school, but their athletes are legit.
