Anyone taking those 20/1 odds on UM winning the MBB title?

Submitted by Red_Lee on

Not much of  a gambling man, but with Michigan currently given the 11th best odds at 20/1 I'm considering slappin a few bucks down. Our odds will probably improve once the bracket is finalized, just wondering if anyone has or will take the odds on this right now.

Also, where do you guys place your bets?

I live and die with UM enough without throwing money at it. I'll pay a little for a bracket action, but UM-specific betting makes me crazy-mad when I lose and only slightly more euphoric when I win...not to mention, I start feeling like I cursed them if they lose. Double and triple whammies.

I'm the same way man. I actually never pick UM to go too far in the tourney because like you said, I only feel slightly better when I win the money. If I bet against them, at least I'm not 100% (prob about 98%) devastated when/if they lose. On top of that, I would at least (more than likely) have some other team to root for without being completely depressed at the mere sight of basketball.

Massey estimates Michigan's odds at about 30:1. Arizona was favorite at 6:1, Wichita and Florida 8.5:1.

That was based on an earlier Lunardi bracket, though, where M was a 3-seed in a region with Kansas and Syracuse.

MSU was 65:1. His odds tend to be overly long at the long end because he's assuming independent probabilities for each individual game, no correlations.

I don't underestand the Florida or Witchita St love. Who was the last team to win a title without a first round talent (either that year or the next) who played significant minutes? Witchita St has none and Florida has none, though Chris Walker (who doesn't play regular minutes) could get there in a couple of seasons.

I wouldn't make that bet but UM is among 13 teams with that kind of talent and then when you look at Kenpom rankings... that pool shrings further (Ok St and UCLA are not title contenders)
