Antonio Whitfield decides to quit football
Antonio Whitfield announced two hours ago on instagram that he will be quitting football to focus on future endeavors in his life. Best of luck to this young man!
"Today I made what has arguably been the hardest decision of my life, but after much thought and prayer I have decided to hang up my football cleats and prepare for future endeavors in my life. As my brothers continue on through the season I wish them the best of luck as they go get that big ten championship. Forever Go Blue."

Bummer. He was like our own little Rudy. I thought it was neat that we had a guy like him on the roster.

This. He was originally a scholarship athlete on Michigan's track team before he walked onto the football team.

Whitfield never had to do a plea bargain due to securities fraud, either.
Sorry to see Whitfield go, but like others here hope he has a great future in track and uses his Michigan degree to the utmost. Good luck, young man!

Damn. I met him at a party a few years and he was just surprised that I knew who he was and his number. Really nice guy. I've been hoping he'd get some play on the field since then. Good luck to him.

There were some sort of good reports out of spring camp, or even a comment from Harbaugh as I recall? I thought he might get some spot chances. I'd much rather see him try to get to an open spot for no gain, because he could've broken it, then see a mastodon smash into ten guys for no yards with an upside possibility of a half a yard or even almost a full yard....
Even if Drake is soon to return fully healthy he's still a question mark to stay healthy at this point and we need more than one fast back. If Higdon has speed, burst and moves then he should burn his redshirt if we want to have a good year.
If Drake isn't coming back, or coming back with enough of his abilities, then do the crazy thing and give us Peppers at RB where he can add 14 to 21 points a game to this offense. It won't cost us as much on D as it would gain us on offense compared to what we have now.
The defense would still be good without him but the offense is in trouble without a running back that can do more than DeVeon. DeVeon would make a great fullback who could get his share of carries and blow holes for Drake or Peppers.
