Alamo Bowl Open Thread
In the spirit of creating these threads ridiculously early, I present to the MGoPublic the Valero Alamo Bowl Open Thread. Remember, gas is a few cents cheaper at the Valero station....in Canton.
Anyhow, it's Washington (7-5) versus RGIII and Baylor (9-3) in a Pac-12 / Big 12 matchup.
ESPN at 9 PM, immediately following the sudden fun that seriously is the Champs Sports Bowl.

Interesting stat: 6 of the last 10 Heisman trophy winners went on to lose their bowl games...
2000: Chris Weinke - Lost to Oklahoma 13-2
2001: Eric Crouch – Lost to Miami 37-14
2002: Carson Palmer – Beat Iowa 38-17
2003: Jason White – Lost to LSU 21-14
2004: Matt Leinart – Beat Oklahoma 55-19
2005: Vacant
2006: Troy Smith – Lost to Florida 41-14
2007: Tim Tebow – Lost to Michigan 41-35
2008: Sam Bradford – Lost to Florida 24-14
2009: Mark Ingram – Beat Texas 37-21
2010: Cam Newton – Beat Oregon 22-19
...doesn't bode well for Griffin. But this may be the highest scoring bowl game in history. Long way to go.

Option TD, how I love you, bobbles and all! <3
December 29th, 2011 at 11:18 PM ^
Or does that just send it to OT?
2010 Illinois flashbacks....
December 29th, 2011 at 11:21 PM ^
...so you are aware, a 70-70 game sends it into a scenario where the rules are much akin to gin rummy. The first team to successfully form sufficient melds to eliminate their deadwood wins. Sadly, this means the ruthless slaughter of both defensive backfields.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:35 PM ^
I'm in favor of it.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:19 PM ^
Over/under on this game like 76.5? Almost there just 5 minutes into the second half.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:24 PM ^
Personal foul after trucking the ballcarrier? Come on!
December 29th, 2011 at 11:26 PM ^
Refs must be from the SEC. Never have they seen such unsportsmanship like behavior.

MMMMM Beer at college football games.

Tacopants = infinite eligibility in all conferences. His redshirt status is augmented by a Game Genie.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:26 PM ^
Spielman seems a bit testy...
December 29th, 2011 at 11:29 PM ^
Agreed, I few times I have felt some friction in that booth b/w he and other guy (name has escaped me).
December 29th, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
than when he asked spielman if he needed a hankerchief to clean the drool off of his face? That was outstanding
EDIT: by the way, we're back to not playing defense anymore. Carry on scoring at will, gentlemen!
December 29th, 2011 at 11:40 PM ^
Haha I thought the drool comment was actually pretty funny...but apparently Spielman didn't inherit the sense of humor gene
December 29th, 2011 at 11:48 PM ^
and by his own admission on the TD review, he doesn't understand sarcasm either.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:27 PM ^
This game or Michigan-Penn State earlier?
December 29th, 2011 at 11:29 PM ^
WUT?! Consecutive 3 and outs? What the hell is happening?
December 29th, 2011 at 11:29 PM ^
I wasn't sure if it was allowed in this game, but that almost looked like defense.

Ahhhh, special teams, remove that vision from my mind....
December 29th, 2011 at 11:30 PM ^
Baylor could not tackle a drunken toddler with ankle weights.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:30 PM ^
memories of your recruitment...good times.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:31 PM ^
A strike to the 19-yard line....literally.
Baylor kick coverage: "He's sacred! Don't touch him!"
Washington offense: "HOLD ONTO THE DAMN BALL"
December 29th, 2011 at 11:31 PM ^
MACball ahoy!
December 29th, 2011 at 11:34 PM ^
All the mediocrity happened so fast in that last series, need a moment to recover there.
So I sit down and Washington's defense continues to be mediocre.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:33 PM ^
Yeah boi
December 29th, 2011 at 11:34 PM ^
I am so glad I am watching this right now.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:35 PM ^
3 point game.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:35 PM ^
How many times do you see a jump ball to an open receiver on a two-point conversion? Baylor, don't be afraid to target and crowd the likely targets on offense.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:37 PM ^
More tackles for Baylor special teams than the starting D methinks.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:37 PM ^
This is the most entertaining bowl game I've watched all year.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:37 PM ^
Not another 42-39 game. Luckily Baylor's giving away pass yards like it's going out of style.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:37 PM ^
This is like watching last years UMich-Illinois game
December 29th, 2011 at 11:37 PM ^
What was the over-under on Urban Meyer mentions by Spielman?
December 29th, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
5--keep money on both sides -___-
December 29th, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
I think they just need to bang and get it over with so Spielman can actually go back to his real job duties.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:41 PM ^
His real job duties.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
Go for 2!!!!
December 29th, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
Becoming out of control. Wow.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:39 PM ^
"This is setting defense back about 450 years" - Chris Spielman
I have to agree with him.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:39 PM ^
Now we know the answer to what would happen if GERG played GERG. Unstoppable force vs. Movable object.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:41 PM ^
It's like using a fire hose to push an inflatable raft across a lake.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:39 PM ^
This game rocks. It's so much watching these types of games as long as it's not your D that is constantly getting smoked.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:42 PM ^
Until today I never wondered what Madden on television might look like...
December 29th, 2011 at 11:40 PM ^
this game is going to make the illinois game from last year look like the lsu alabama game from this year.
just kidding, but seriously.....
December 29th, 2011 at 11:44 PM ^
3 OTs in regulation.

the Arena Football Bowl
December 29th, 2011 at 11:40 PM ^
This Baylor team, giving up 49 (so far) to a pretty average Washington team is, allegedly, the #12 team in the nation.
That's ridiculous.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:43 PM ^
I don't see how you can be ranked #12 in the nation with a defense that resembles the Michigan defenses of the past 3 years
December 29th, 2011 at 11:45 PM ^
It resembles my defense on Madden.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:41 PM ^
Speilman is hilarious. He continued to jabber thoughout the cut-away into the commercial break self-aggrandizing himself and insisting that he won't critisize the defenses or something like that. He's really just pathetic to listen to.
