Did she replace the chick who was smashed from a couple years ago?
I don’t know enough about the Xs and Os but what happened in that first defensive play when the UM players ran into each other?

Ambry recognizes the crack block way, way too late. He should read the receiver is crack blocking and leave his man to replace Hawkins as the edge defender to funnel the RB inside or at least force him OOB. Instead his eyes never leave his man even after he makes contact with Hawkins not only doesn't crack replace, but manages to pick off Hawkins even more.

He's playing man. If he releases, that guy is uncovered and running free across the middle. Hawkins takes a really bad pursuit angle. Paye doesn't get up field, and Kovacs is flat footed and doesn't react. It's not Ambry's fault.

Upon taking a second look......not as bad as my initial reaction. It was a great offensive game plan by MTSU.....hard to get pressure. I thought we did a good job...Mason definitely got pushed around a bit but I’m assuming he’s a place holder until Jeter returns and the freshman DTs grow up a bit.

Hope they grow up a lot in the next 3 weeks...

I think if you imagine Ben Mason just out there in passing downs, the idea of him playing is a lot less scary. He seems like a guy you don’t want to be backing up when he hits you - he struggled against a lot of run blocking when he was the one getting hit.

On rewatch, it seemed like a lot of the plays where the team seemed slow were simply missed assignments. Not what you want, but definitely more fixable than lack of physical ability. When not screwing up assignments or taking false steps, the defense was ending plays at or behind the LOS, exactly how you'd hope against an outmatched opponent. Really only interior DL seems like a physical deficiency, and hopefully one that gets resolved soon when guys get healthy and freshman get their feet under them.

Hutchinson was so disruptive in the backfield. I don’t ever recall Gary having that type of game, but my memory is poor

Yeah, your memory is very poor. Gary wasn't a perfect player, and IMO his main issue was he stood straight up, very rarely got leverage, and got too far up field on some of his rushes, but dude, this was Middle Tennessee.

I saw a lot of bad angles on pursuit
we were getting pushed on the run game like a push pop
pass rush looks good, but I feel like MTSU is more of a run oriented team so they may not be world renowned pass blockers I will let others chime in that
Don Brown does not believe fat meat is greasy ( an old folk term) meaning he still is late to adapting if at all, MTSU kept showing that they try to run off the 3 wr side to get more leverage, and you have like one DB out there trying to fight to get to the ball carrier until some of the calvery comes
did I say bad angles !!! felt like I would give it more exclamation points like Elaine from Seinfeld
I hope they were paying attention in film study because they are about to see this on a larger scale from army with more cut blocks, and I imagine them choosing to attack our middle like a twinkie
