2018 basketball depth chart

Submitted by GoBlue C4 on October 27th, 2018 at 12:04 PM

1- Simpson / Brooks 30/10

2- Poole / Brooks.    32/8

3- Mathews / Brazdeikis 32 / 8

4- Livers / Brazdeikis  28 / 12

5- Teske / Davis.    25/15

Total minutes-

1. Mathews 32

1. Poole 32

3. Simpson 30

4. Livers 28

5. Teske 25

6. Brazdeikis 20

7. Brooks 18

8. Davis 15

This is a 2018 depth chart, so the first 7-8 weeks of the season. Beilein said he wants to start with a 7-8 man rotation and try to build up to a 9 man rotation eventually. I'm guessing the guy that gets added in will be B. Johns at the 5 so if Michigan is playing a small line up Johns can take the 15 min behind Teske.

I think Brooks will be on the floor early at the 1 and 2, Michigan is going to need his shooting and Beilein said Brooks is one of the best on the team at moving the ball and not having it stick.

To me the development of Brooks and or Dejulius will be the key to the season for Michigan to get more shooting on the floor. Also the corner shooting from Livers will be big, hopefully he can shoot 38% from 3.

It sounds like Castleton and Nunez could be heading for a rs.

Go BLUE!

Damn we are deep this year. This could be Beileins most talented roster top to bottom. No superstars yet although Mathews and Poole could definitely become that this year

even if he doesn't start, he likely gets more minutes than livers, since he can also play the 3.  johns will get 5 min a game.  depending how castleton looks, he could get most of davis' min come Jan.

i also don't see brooks getting that many minutes unless he makes a significant soph leap.

The best lineup for them will be

1. Simpson

2. Poole

3. Chuck

4. Iggy

5. Teske/johns depending on who we’re facing. If it’s a team with an Isaac haas type, obviously teske. But a lot of teams don’t have true big men and johns could be a major mismatch and really spread the floor.

I'm not following your logic about Johns.

Beilein has used small ball to take advantage of teams playing traditional bigs. Opposing coaches have often thrown in the towel and subbed out their big. Those are the teams where Johns would present a mismatch.

I think Iggy and Johns are gonna have a huge impact as the season progresses. I would love to see Johns light it up against Izzo. Cant wait to see this team in action. Off course we will hear the morons and haters come out in full force when we lose our first game. Beilein will have this team playing at an elite level by February. GO BLUE!!

Exactly.  I think expecting major success out of this squad early in the season is unrealistic.  Definitely has the making of typical Beilein late season success story, although I expect a fairly sizable step back this year from last.

Too many question marks in the backcourt.  I wouldn’t mind seeing DeJulius burning his redshirt if Brooks doesn’t progress from last year.

According to twitter, Iggy is starting over Livers in practice and in the closed scrimmage with Toledo. Injury might be a factor, but Livers is coming in off of the bench.

Overall I agree that depth appears good here. But some guys are going to have to step up and prove they can sink threes consistently or there are going to be major spacing issues. Simpson, Matthews, and Teske were all liabilities from distance. Iggy is thought to have that skill, but hasn't yet proven it at this level. And Poole looked pretty good but not lights-out for most of the season before hitting one of the two greatest shots in the history of the program.

There are hints that Teske has been working on-and, perhaps, succeeding at-taking threes. Beilein is a known quantity in this coaching environment, so we can hope at least one of Matthews or Simpson takes a step forward.

It can happen, but we need to see it.
