No true frosh will play, almost certainly. All three will redshirt. As far as the RS Frosh, Ricky Barnum has come up the most as a likely contributor or possibly starter at one of the guards. Omameh has come up as well, as we as Rocko as guys on the 2-deep whose last names we may see between the sidelines. Probably nothing outside of that, but we do return all 5 starters.

There's no way that three redshirt freshmen will start. There will be a max of two, but most likely only one. Molk has center locked down. Schilling has one spot locked down, whether it's guard or tackle. Moosman is a fifth year senior and will almost certainly start at one of the guard spots. The tackle spots are the most vulnerable for playing time. Either Barnum or Omameh could play tackle, but Ortmann and Dorrestein are still around (as is Schilling). There will almost definitely be some shuffling, whether it's new starters or old starters at new positions. But we're not going to see a youth movement on the front line just yet.

O'Neill hasn't been as impressive as Omameh and Barnum in practices. The guys at Rivals think that he probably won't play until 2010, at the earliest. It's possible that Barnum, for example, will play tackle in 2009 but then move inside to guard once Moosman graduates. So a possible lineup in 2010 could be O'Neill, Ferrara, Molk, Barnum, and Omameh (from left to right). Obviously, that's pure speculation. But Barnum's flexibility is turning out to be a plus.

Just thinking about the depth chart and past this upcoming season with a possibility of this line being around for approximately 2 more years. I can only imagine what an offense this would be with solid line all the way across the front also with Tate having 2 years under his belt. As long as we get just 1-2 good skilled players a year we may be looking at Big Ten Championship in 2011. Only downside is that we need a nice batch of O-lineman this year so the 2008 O-line situation doesn't happen again.

Whether out of necessity or intelligence, Rodriguez has placed more of an emphasis on offensive line recruiting. I don't think the 2008 offensive line situation will present itself again during Rodriguez's tenure.

Thin, inexperienced, injured OL and no true major college QB. That will never happen again at UM. And I still think they can go 9-3 this year, with the losses being to Iowa, PSU, and Wisky.

9-3? Are you high? Beating OSU? I would go nuts if this were the case, but I just don't see it. We are starting a freshman QB people.... and it's not like Braylon, Long, Marlin, Woodley, Foote, etc. can come back and suit up for us. The team will be great, I have no doubt in that - but 3-9 to 9-3 with a freshman QB? Not going to happen.

Will hopefully be much better then they were in 2008. I'm not expecting to see something along the dominant olines UM has had in the past though. Improved oline play in the running game would do wonders for the offense no matter who the QB is. Hopefully, they'll be good enough to produce a solid, consistent running game against the weaker teams on the schedule.

Although he was the highest rated in the class. Much of that was based upon upside. Reports are that he still is still a project. He needed to build significant strength and size, and his technique and footwork reportedly very raw. Expect that you will first see him on the field in 2010 at earliest. He will be an RS freshman this year.

I agree that Mooseman and Molk are locks as starters, along with Schilling, though his exact position is in flux. Ortmann and Ferrara are the most likely to be replaced, by Omameh and Barnum. Ferrara could feasibly be replaced by Barnum directly at guard or Schilling, as Omameh takes his tackle spot. Essentially, I think Omameh, Barnum, Ferrara, and Ortmann are in competition with each other, as they may not all be in direct competition for the same positions, Omameh, for example, could potentially force Barnum to the bench if he appears to be a more viable starting tackle than Barnum does a guard.

This is just a hunch, but I have the feeling that the coaches are more impressed with Barnum at this point. He's pressing for playing time at guard AND tackle (and he was apparently learning the center position last year, too), which makes me think they're trying to get him on the field somewhere. With Omameh, it's like "Hey, he has a chance to beat out one of our tackles." With Barnum, it seems to be more "We need to get this guy on the field somehow, no matter where he plays."
