#11 Michigan traveled to down to the hole known as Columbus earlier today to take on #18 Ohio State. Michigan entered today's game on a 9-game win streak in the rivalry, tied for the longest by either side (1997-2000 Michigan won 9 in a row over OSU. Michigan tied their own record last year with a 2-1 double OT thriller on senior day in a win that also clinched the program's second straight B1G Championship.

OSU got 2 shots in the first quarter but could not generate any more offense in the first half. After those 2 shots, Michigan's ferocious defense put the clamps down. However, the Wolverine offense couldn't get much going either, going into halftime tied at 0-0 with the Wolverines leading in shots 5-2 and corners 2-1.

The 3rd quarter was a much different story and so was the rest of the game. The Wolverines dominated play, outshooting the Buckeyes 10-0 and getting a 6-0 advantage on corners. However, OSU's goalkeeper stood on her head and made 7 saves in the 3rd quarter alone to keep it 0-0 through 3 quarters.

Michigan finally connected on a corner in the 4th quarter with Emma Tamer finally getting Michigan on the board with about 11 minutes in the game. OSU--frustratingly enough--answered just 2 minutes later on their only shot of the 2nd half, tying the game at 1-1.

The game went into a familiar place: overtime. 3 of the last 4 meetings between these teams have gone beyond regulation. And just like all 3 of the OT games, the Wolverines prevailed.

Sofia Southam poked the ball right in front of the cage and Meg Dowthwaite tipped it between the OSU goalkeepers legs as the ball slowly rolled into the cage.

Michigan wins another tight one over OSU, 2-1 in OT. Michigan controlled play in most of this game but just couldn't finish as many times as they'd like. Shots were 24-5 Michigan, corners 10-2 Michigan. OSU led in saves 13-2.

That's 10 straight wins over Ohio State dating back to 2012. This streak is now the longest in the history of the rivalry by either side and surpasses the 9-game win streak by Michigan from 1997-2000.

Michigan is now 9-3 (3-1 B1G) on the season and will stay in Columbus this weekend with their next game being on Sunday in a neutral site game against Ball State.

Quick!

Please do an interview with a field hockey fan so I can hear the response to “Can you describe the feeling of 10 straight wins vs Ohio State?”.

Would be nice to close my eyes, listen, and try to mimic the feeling of winning multiples against OSU.

Long for the days when we could routinely substitute football for field hockey, sigh. Sadly we are getting to the point that younger generations are going to start to feel like a lot of Lions fans having never been able to witness their team really being a winner big winner.
