#11 Field Hockey beats #15 Wake Forest for 500th all-time win

After #11 Michigan upset #1 North Carolina yesterday in Iowa City for the second straight season, Team 45 looked to do something it did not do last year.

Finish off Challenge weekend and beat #15 Wake Forest.

Michigan jumped out to another 2-0 lead with goals by Fay Keijer and freshman Kayla Reed.

Wake Forest then tied the game with two goals in 2 minutes to make it 2-2, but the Wolverines pulled ahead before half with a goal by Meg Dowthwaite to make it 3-2.

Emma Way increased the lead to 4-2 when she went top shelf. But Wake came back with a goal that was apparently too high but was called a goal. Michigan challenged earlier in the game and lost so the call stood.

Wake Forest then tied the game 4-4 with 15 minutes left after they were inexplicably gifted a corner.

Michigan responded shortly after with game-winner by Leah Cardarelli and took the 5-4 win.

Sam Swenson was great again in this in cage, finishing with 5 saves.

Michigan has won both ACC/B1G Challenge games for the first time in 16 years.

Michigan will have their home opener on Friday night against Liberty at Ocker Field.

This win was the 500th win in Michigan Field Hockey history. The program's all-time record is 500-337-25.

These posts make me want to go see matches of the non-rev's the next time I make it to A2, although it's not often.  I've never seen a field hockey game, UM softball, gymnastics, swimming, etc.

There should be a way that we can give WDs name when we enter an event so that the AD gives him a referral fee for each ticket. ; )

Two impressive wins against the two schools I root for most after Michigan. I have a graduate degree from Wake Forest and my son is a student at UNC.

If UM can beat these two excellent teams, they can beat anyone.
