Greetings fellow MGoBloggers!

This is my first diary - yay! I've been meaning to make some Michigan wallpapers and graphics for a while, but only recently have I worked up the courage to actually share them. I've been lurking on MGoBlog for many years now. I love this site and am happy to finally be contributing, even if it's just graphics.

Here's my first attempt at a general UM Football graphic featuring Harbaugh. Nothing specific - just lots of in-your-face Harbaughness. This image was from his days in SF, so I had to remove the SF logo and apply the Bo Block M - not perfect but it gets the job done. The "Welcome Home" theme has a couple different veins, the most obvious being to welcome Jim home. Additionally, it serves the purpose of welcoming our program's detractors back into the fold. No excuses from here on out. You're either in (Welcome Home), or never come back as far as I'm concerned. I was going to include "2015" or "team136" in there somewhere, but I wanted this to be more of a general graphic that can be reused year after year if desired.

I want to send a big shout-out to MGoDesign trailblazers like JonValk, monuMental and all the others who share their art and designs - thank you! Also big thank you to the MGoBlog staff and Brian for spinning the hamster wheels!

Sorry in advance if the image links don't work properly - I tried my best! Let me know if anyone has any advice as to how to post this kind of thing. I'm a quick learner and will get better at it.

If you all dig my work, let me know and I'll try to create/post more of it!

Here's a link to the full versions if the images above don't work:

Thanks, and Go Blue!

Semi-personal background for anyone interested: I was born in Ann Arbor in '84, but have been living in FL for the past 20+ years. I didn't go to UM (terrible student in high school), but bleed Maize and Blue just like the rest of you (I do have former UM students and faculty in my family, if that counts for anything). I currently work as an Art Director, graphic designer and freelance multimedia artist. I'm all about simple designs, so you won't find anything too over-the-top from me. No crappy HDR filters, etc. Shameless portfolio plug: www.sebaballe.com (this link is my freelance design portfolio and not sports related. I'm working on an Instagram page for sports-specific graphics - stay tuned if you're interested in following me there.)

First of all, great work. You did a great job cutting Harbaugh out from what appears to be a very nice quality image. I love the raw emotion portrayed by the image. I can see what people are saying about the yellow tint to Harbaugh's face, but I get that you were toning the overall image to give it a consistent color grouping, so no big deal to me.  I also get the splash in the background, as it's quite popular in design. Great choice in font - very clean and crisp.

I love that you're branching out and posting your work.  I know that it's very intimidating to share your work for the first time, especially with a fanbase as "involved" as ours.  I took the leap after being mesmerized by MonuMental's fantastic work.  I always loved how beautiful his work was. Specifically, his Sugar Bowl fireflies wallpaper made me nearly weep at its beauty.  I would love to see him back in the game here, as well.  The more awesome wallpapers to choose from, the better, especially for those of us who live in Columbus amongst Buckeyes.  It gives me great joy to see the look of disgust on their faces when they walk up to talk during work and see my dual-monitors in all their maize and blue glory.  You have just helped contribute to Buckeye fans wanting to vomit.  Congrats!

Keep up the good work and we should work on a collaborative wallpaper project.  I've had some good ideas in the past, but I am only one man and couldn't get it done.  Perhaps, if you're up for it, we can tag-team some wallpaper goodness.  Let me know.  Thanks for the shout-out, by the way.  I always enjoye some encouraging words and would also welcome some constructive criticism (seeing as you are a designer).

Thank you for the kind words! After the first couple of comments I thought I made a bad choice haha. Luckily, as I'm sure you know, working in the creative fields also breeds thick skin. I definitely gave the yellow tint on Jim a second thought but, like you said, it was more about the overall color scheme than making Jim look healthy. It's actually a gradient overlay (maize to blue, top to bottom) and not a solid color, but the blue isn't as noticeable. The splash by his mouth was definitely intentional and was meant to add to the intensity of the image. I could have used a nice picture of Jimmy smiling and sans-spit/mouth open, but that's not the vibe I was going for.

I too wish MonuMental would make a comeback. More than his images, I loved watching his process videos. He (I assume it was a he but I could be wrong) was very, very talented. I hope he's doing something really big these days.

A collaboration sounds awesome! I'm always down for stuff like that. I left my email a couple comments up. Drop me a line sometime and we'll talk shop!

Thanks again! I'm just happy to be contributing to a really awesome website and community. I look forward to your next piece! Not sure if I'll have the time to do them on a week-to-week basis like you do, but I'll do my best. Either way, keep up the good work! Feel free to bounce any ideas off me as well, and I'll do the same. Us MGoDesigners have to stick together!
