MGoTarot is something that I started doing last season. The tarot card readings turned out to be amazingly accurate in revealing the outcomes and energies of each game. This season I thought I would share with you. 

The approach is a standard 3 card spread showing the past, the present, and the future outcome. I do the reading within 24 hours of the game for accuracy. I shuffle the cards while singing the Victors. I then lay out all the cards face down in a line and select 3 with my eyes closed. I like to use the Salvador Dali Deck because it puts a modernist/art history twist on the traditional 78 card Rider-Waite Deck. Plus the cards have an oil-paint smell that is totally groovy.

Coming off Penn St and the bye week, Michigan has hit their stride as a well balanced team. The Temperance card represents enlightened awareness. A team that is talented, self-aware, and knows it can beat you many different ways. Plus it would not be Michigan State weekend if the nekkid angel was not a reminder of all the pretty ladies up in East Lansing that may not understand football, but can appreciate the charms of a Michigan man. Look at that. She is already pouring you a drink.

The Chariot is all about GOIN' PLACES AND DOIN' THINGS! Michigan is approaching this game as the beginning of the home stretch for another playoff run. The image represents the blending of talent and chance driving synergistically towards a goal. Given the flames, we should not see the Wolverines come out flat Saturday night.

 

As for an element of the outcome? We get the Lovers card. Well, oo la la! This represents the introduction of the duality into the major arcana of the tarot deck. The lovers exist in an Edenic bubble of perfection, bound together as a relationship, or the foundation of family and community. Like it or not, Sparti will always be connected to Michigan and will play them hard. They are the Joker to our Batman. They are the moon that reflects the light and glory of our Wolverine sun. They are the PCP that won't let you quit chainsaws. So look for things to get a little weird since this is a rivalry game. But also, reach out to your Sparti friends and relatives in a respectful way. There might be something to gain from working that duality in your own life. Or if you happen to already know one of those fine young Spartan ladies, reach out, pick up a couple bottles of wine, and watch the game with her. See if she will help you with that butterfly as depicted above. She's already checking it out.

World Card, old friend, you have returned! We repeatedly saw the World Card last year leading to the college football playoffs. This is the arrival on the grand stage of a juggernaut. MIchigan wins in prime time as this team looks to complete another amazing season.
