MGoCocktail: Washington 2021

How perfunctory was the WMU game?  I wrote most of this Friday night.  Michigan had between 37-45 points.  They gave up 17 points.  Half the fanbase was outraged by the inconsistency of the offense.   The other half aghast that WMU put up 17 points and had another long drive snuffed out by a turnover deep in Michigan territory or missed Field Goal.

One touchdown occurred when a corner got burned on a double move, or a busted coverage in zone.  The other scores came on methodical drives, where WMU was able to move the ball on the ground which opened up passing lanes.

This led to many of the fanbase to cry “Unacceptable” and gnash their teeth on how this defense won’t be ready for OSU or Wisconsin.

John U. Bacon will say for the 1st time of 24 times this year on twitter.  “Michigan fans are only happy when they are unhappy.”  And then we all will hold our butts for Washington.

End of Friday night writing.

As even bloggers, who are making a living watching the game, drifted to Formula 1 or the PSU/Wisconsin tilt,  McCarthy unleased what will be known as “The Throw”, that is until he makes a better, more important throw.

Then I got a group text from one of guys with which I graduated.  “Yeah he better not try that **it against a P5 corner.”

It was the first group text of the game.

For a brief 20 seconds, the mind thought of all the fantastical things this new gunslinger might do.

But when 10 year NFL Veteran QB, Dan Orlovsky, starts gushing about that throw,

The day after, I thought of a comparative throw:  Brett Favre in the playoffs vs the Lions.

The consummate gunslinger, in his early career, he could explode in any direction.  McCarthy seems to have the same bug.

However, when playing a fully weaponized OSU, you need that gunslinger.  All things being equal, OSU is more talented at every position.  However, if you have that NFL talent at QB, he gives you a puncher’s chance.  Even though, he will make horrendous throws that will cost you earlier games, he has the opportunity to catch fire and beat OSU maybe once in the next 3 years.

That seemed so impossible 1 week ago.

Washington Apple

Washington is the Apple state.  Their intrastate rivalry  is the Apple Cup.  Even though the weather has yet to change, lets drink ourselves into autumn.

The story of this drink is that in the late 1980’s a nasty insect decimated Washington’s apple crop.  Christof  Guycoogan  fermented and distilled those ruined apples to make an apple liquor which contemplated his favorite drink

Easy to remember  and easy to make:  Plus all of you have extra apple liquor from last year

1 oz Canadian Whiskey

1oz  Apple Liquor

1 oz Cranberry juice

You can actually get away with the Apple Pucker for this cocktail.  The better the apple brandy or liquor the more complex the drink.  I also generally use sparkling cranberry juice for an added flavor profile.

Take all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and shake if using Cranberry juice, Stir if using sparkling cranberry juice. Strain into cocktail glass or coupe.  Garnish with an apple slice

If you’re feeling ambitious for the night game, halve each the ingredients.  Shake and strain into shot glass and offer as a shot.

Salut!

Although I am personally a teetotaler, this concoction seems intriguing!

Something many people may not know about Washington state is that although it is famous for apples, it's also the biggest *blueberry* producer in the USA, beating out even us, although we are still in the top 3-4.  I have no forking idea how you'd incorporate blueberries into a cocktail but am guessing you might.
