The lack of defensive ends

Dearest fellow fans of the winged helmet:

Why don't the coaches make some of our tight ends move to DE? They should be athletic enough, and I would think that Messrs. Koger and Moore would relish the opportunity to play earlier in their careers.

Koger and Moore were promised during their re-recruitment by Rich Rod that they would play TE. I don't think either wants to play DE, but if either fails to move up depth chart or realizes after a few years in program that DE might provide more playing time, then they might move over to other side of the ball.

I hope that RR keeps Lloyd's tradition of letting the kids play where they want to during their 1st year.  The kids should get an opportunity to prove that they can play at their desired position.  To force kids to switch positions as soon as they arrive on campus would be detrimental to future recruiting.

Now, I hope that Moore/Witherspoon are realistic enough to see the opportunity they have to see the field if they make the switch to DE after 1 year, a la Trent at CB a couple years ago.

I think that's a solid idea. I also think that with a few guys lately (and possibly in the future) moving from safety to LB and with the depth we have at LB we should move one or two of those guys to DE. They wouldn't have ideal size, but we're a speed team now, right?

...that Rich Rod was (re-)recruiting him as a tight end. I thought that odd given the depth chart and Rod's seemingly ambivalent view of the position. I would expect one of the linebackers to move up first (always hear Witherspoon's name) and then maybe turning around one of the TEs.

Koger will be a TE. I watched him play al through high school. The kid is the real deal. He actually is just a large WR that they played inside as a TE. He has the speed and hands to be awesome over the middle. Believe me he won't be on defense.
