Game Day Weather

Submitted by mgoweather on November 10th, 2023 at 11:22 AM

You might want the extra layers if you're traveling to the Keystone state for this big game! A weak low pressure system will bring some clouds to the area and help to keep temperatures near or below normal for this time of year. It'll be a little cool here at home, too. We do look to be dry for the game and for the most part, stay that way (few lake effect showers further north), so roads shouldn't be a big problem coming home late Saturday or on Sunday. Remember to thank a Veteran! <3 Let's go blue!

If you're traveling to State College...

Tailgating

With a noon start you know your morning tailgate is going to be cold! It's November football! Grab your insulated thermos and extra warm coat with temperatures in the mid 30s to get your day started. Tailgate lots typically open at 8am at Penn State, but for this game they're opening at 6am, so you can get going real early. The sun comes up just before 7am and it will help us out a bit - we'll make it to the low 40s by mid-morning. These are the games when it's fun to set up the crockpot with oatmeal, and maybe a hot chocolate bar! You'll want something to help keep you warm and if you brought the littles they can enjoy this, too. Plus we're getting into the holidays so no one will question you adding some peppermint schnapps to your hot chocolate! NW Winds will be lighter throughout the morning, around 5-7mph (enough to keep the leaves blowing about), which will keep it feeling more like the low to mid 30s for much of the morning. We'll see sun and clouds for the first part of the day.

Kickoff

47 degrees for the start! We'll have some sun, some clouds as we get the game started with winds staying out of the NW near 10mph - enough to make it feel more like the lower 40s. You'll notice more clouds starting to move in during the first couple of quarters.

Halftime

We'll add maybe a degree or two into the half, and we look to hover there through the end of the game. NW winds will stay around 10mph, keeping wind chills running in the low 40s to near 45. More clouds will move in, turning us mostly cloudy to end the game. Grab some pizza or crabfries and settle in to cheer loudly for the second half!

Post-Game

Leaving Beaver Stadium with a win always feels great! Mostly cloudy to finish out the afternoon! If you're heading out to grab dinner and drinks - gotta celebrate double digits in the w column - temps will start to fall quickly, especially as the sun sets just before 5pm now. By 7pm we'll be near 40 and clouds will start to move back out. We'll be partly cloudy into the late night with winds turning light. Temps will drop into the upper 30s by then, and by the time the lights come on we'll be closer to 30 degrees. Luckily winds are light so we don't have much of an extra chill to add to that. If you'll be up early Sunday morning to head home, it'll be cool but dry with some passing clouds.

If you're staying in Ann Arbor...

Not too bad here at home! We're going to start our Saturday here on the cool side near 30 degrees, so bundle up if you're grabbing those last minute tailgate items! It'll be a bright and sunny morning, warming to around 40 by game time with a NW breeze around 5-10mph. We'll be in the mid 40s by the time the game ends with some clouds moving through. Expect a partly cloudy evening with upper 30s for a late dinner and near 30 by the time you're wrapping up a late night! Let's go blue, beat those nittany lions!!
