Rethinking the game, I'm trying to recall if Wisconsin got no rebounds from their centers because they were so determined to front Dickinson.

Craig's right. NOT a basketball play. If you're in the shooting motion on a layup, the elbow flung up and to the side throws your shot off. That he missed the shot was not incidental; it was an obvious and nearly inevitable result.
It would be like trying a three-point shot with your off-hand waving to the side.
