A Youngstown reporter is asserting that Michigan is on the verge of hiring Youngstown State DBs coach Mike Zordich:

This would be bad news for Roy Manning. If Zordich is in fact in, there's just one staff member left and that would likely go to some sort of TE/OL coach, whether that's Jimmie Dougherty or someone else.

Zordich is an interesting guy: a Penn State alum who had an 12-year NFL career and only started coaching in his 40s, first in high school and then a brief tenure with the Eagles as a QC coach in 2009 and 2010 and then as safeties coach the next two years; he's been at Youngstown since. Bo Pelini was going to keep him on, FWIW.

something is in the works for Manning at UM.  A number of people give him high praise.  Not really sure what to think.  There just hasn't been much said about him in the process and he hasn't come up in conversations at other programs.  Either way, seems like a good hire by JH and hope to hear something on Manning soon.

Manning was already a GA at Michigan. So I doubt that's an option. He wouldn't want to take the pay cut and probably doesn't want to go through grad school again.

On second thought, he should enter a PhD program and stay here for the next six years on a $25,000 stipend.

Yeah, seems like Manning is out, but a guy who can recruit like him won't be jobless for long. And I'm guessing he's good enough at coaching LB to be an asset

This would be a curious hire, given his lack of college experience or Harbaugh ties. It was probably Durkin who recommended him to Harbaugh.

Having said that, if he's good enough for Harbaugh, he's good enough for me.

On the recruting issue, think of Durkin (who was Rivals' recruiter of the year only a couple of years ago) as Manning's replacement (assuming we do lose him). I'm not real worried about recruiting.

Also, Jim Harbaugh will be having dinner at recruits' houses. Just hear me out, I think some good players might be interested in playing for Michigan, with or without Manning.
