Blogpoll Draft Ballot Week 6 Comment Count

Tim

I moved to a full resume ballot this week, so some of the deltas may seem a little bit off. The full chart of resumes can be found here, listed from most to least impressive victories.

There are a few things I'm not certain of (there is a case to be made for Michigan State above Florida, for example, and as usual, there could be a number of other teams at the end of the poll).

I'm open for suggestions, corrections, etc., so comment and I'll try to respond and/or include your contributions.

I would not put Auburn ahead of Nebraska. Auburn definitely should have lost to Clemson and could have easily lost to Miss St and S Carolina. Neb's road obliteration of Washington looks pretty good now.

They have a much better resume than Arkansas, Iowa, and Florida. For one thing, Michigan State is undefeated while Arkansas, Iowa, and Florida are not. For another thing, the only team out of those three with a quality win is Iowa, who beat Penn State. However, Michigan State's win over a ranked Wisconsin team is better than Iowa's win over an unranked Penn State and combined with Iowa's loss to Arizona, MSU clearly has the better resume. And the best thing on Arkansas' resume is that they played a close game against Alabama at home when both teams were very sloppy. And Florida...well that should be self-evident.

But I kinda think we should be lower after that performance (I know, resume, but playing even with Indiana for four quarters means something, just like Wisconson only beating SJSU 27-14 has to mean something).

Nevada spanked an overmatched rival on the road.  Watching the games last week, I would say Nevada looked more like a top 20 team than UM or WISC did and beat UNLV (common opponent with Wisc.) in a much more convincing fashion than did the badgers.. wisc was only up 17-14 at half and looked like crap whereas Nevada had a two score lead pretty much the whole game and the score would have been 44-20 save a garbage time TD by UNLV.  Nevada also left a TD on the field as they kneeled it on the 5 to end the game.  Also, Nevada's wins appear to be better than Wisky's (ASU/Cal = push, BYU better than UNLV, UNLV better than SJSU who just lost to UC Davis, and Colorado St= better than Austin Peay)

True, the game against Michigan State Nevada can't match, but Wisc was dominated and lost despite a significant turnover advantage.. if you are positive 3 turnovers and you're still getting your ass kicked, this means the other team is significantly better than you bc +3=~98% chance of winning the game.  You heard it here first: its a 7-5 season for the badgers if thats all they can muster against state.

That's really a minor quibble though, overall the ballot looks really good, glad to be back in full resume territory, this is when your ballots really start to reflect the reality of the season better than the mainstream polls.

There's no question Alabama is #1 and there's no question Oregon is #2, after that it starts to get fuzzy.  You could make a lot of cases for a lot of teams, but two things are abundantly clear.  As much as I hate to say it, and as ugly and lucky as their wins have been, on a purely resume basis, LSU has to be in the top 5.  Utah needs to drop tremendously, it's hard to make a case for them being in the top 20 purely based on who they've played in beaten.
