OT. Arizona and Rodriguez

Submitted by massblue on

Happened to be in Utah and went to Utah-Arizona game.  Rich has lost his magic.  Defense was as bad as it was in Ann Arbor.  His offense had trouble scoring.  Utah played horribly in the first half and was trailing by only 2.  Watched an interview with him on the local station and he was as densive about his team's performance as he was here at UM.

I think he  has lost his confidence as a coach and now everyone is running spread and teams have a better handle on how to defend it.  I thought Arizona was perfect place for him, but this could be his last year there.

Now that we have a legitimately elite coach, I think we can put the old spurious arguments about why RR wasn't successful here to bed.

He's a fantastic offensive innovator but just doesn't run good defenses or hire good defensive staffs.

For the job he did at West Virginia. Sadly, he should have stuck around there, he could have had a statue built for him the way he took that program to a super high level. Now, for the most part, WVU hasn't been relevent since he left.

I thought Arizona was the perfect marriage of school and coach in a conference that doesn't teach any defense.

Arizona is a perfect job for him.  The games don't end until 2:00 a.m.  He gets no media coverage and no one cares.  The probelm here was he was thrown into the media fire and was not prepared for it.

Aside from Arizona and Oregon's debacle, SJSU lost to Hawaii to drop to 1-5. The week before they lost to New Mexico, who lost to Rutgers. And they're still Iowa State's only win.

Borges's offense is mediocre--which at SJSU is pretty good--but the defense under English is 124 out of 128 in S&P. (They finished 90th last year under Robinson, which for them is probably about par.)

but honestly dude is too angry at his players during games and doesn't know shit about defense despite playing it during college. i expect he will be mediocre for the rest of his career, so i am not surprised.
