OT: CJ Spiller, WTF?
I think Clemson RB CJ Spiller is a good ballplayer, but I am flummoxed by the recent media fellatio for this guy. Is he really being considered a Heisman finalist?
I hate to be a stats guy, but I don't find his numbers compelling. He's only rushed for 800-some yards, and even if you add in the receiving yards he's at about 1300 yards from scrimmage. And only ten touchdowns. Ten!
Stanford's Toby Gerhart is approaching 1400 yards and has scored twice as many touchdowns, and with receiving he's up to 1500 yards. Mark Ingram at Alabama doesn't have much better stats than Spiller, but he is anchoring an undefeated team with an offense that has an horrific passing game.
Gerhart went for 400 yards the past two games against Oregon and USC. Spiller's best game was against Florida State, and it's not like beating FSU is a resume-making accomplishment these days. He's only rushed for over 100 yards three times, and has been held under 100 total yards in four games.
This dude is like Reggie Ball or Chris Simms (is that a low blow?), the media have been in love with him since he was a freshman and they christened him and his teammate the next Reggie Bush and LenDale White.

CJ Spiller is an animal. I think he's going to be a good NFL back...just needs to gain a few pounds.

Addendum: CJ Spiller is like a really hot girl without a lot of personality or intelligence - lots of flash and attractiveness, but when compared with other heavy hitters the substance really isn't there. In other words, he is...

Kudos...same state, too.

It pains me to watch Toby Gerhart run the ball. He's big and clunky, just gross.
The Heisman should go to nobody this year.

What have you been watching? Toby isn't clunky, he's smooth and fleet of foot. He has great skill in evading tacklers after they make contact.

Brandon Graham for Heisman

He's also a dynamic return man. He clearly is worth the hype, and deserves Heisman contention.

He creates explosive plays, people love explosive plays.

he has great top end speed but is not especially quick. i don't think he will do anything of note in the nfl. i may end up eating my words but i'm just no a big fan of him.

every time he touches the ball. His problem is that he plays for Clemson.
