And we stopped recruiting him...

Nicholson has been tearing it up in East Lansing thus far as a true freshman. He plays on all special teams, and is now the starting safety.

We had this kid 'locked up' until we told him we no longer had space in our class for him. Yet another coaching blunder over the past year.

I am telling you - this kid will be a first round pick after his junior year. With all the great defenses MSU has had lately, the coaches are saying he is likely the best safety they have seen. I predict he will start to get some snaps on offense next year as well.

Nicholson seemed like an elite guy to me with his size and speed, just a rare combination to have a guy 6-3, 210 lbs who can run a 14 flat 110m hurdles and long jump 24+ feet.  I remember thinking this kid is going to look so good and blue and he's probably one of the most underrated recruits in the country.  But what do I know about recruiting?  This kid is almost as good of an athlete as Jabrill and he's bigger, and now he's getting better coaching.  FML.  He and McDowell should be starting for us.

concerned with today? If Nicholson came here he would be on the bench behind all of our "depth" and then when he finally hit the field he would be mediocre because player development is oh so wonderful these days.

Kid that he didn't end up coming here. He would have withered on the bench for a year or two, not learned or developed at all, then disappointed as a junior/senior and ended up an undrafted nfl fa.

It wouldn't of mattered. If he had came here he'd be undeveloped and not seeing the field. These coaches can't coach. None of them can develop players it make any kind of adjustments. That's why we get worse every game now.

There's a reason the State secondary has been good for a while. They are basically to the point where they can plug and play guys and they are amazing. That's what happens you competently coach and develop talent.

Every staff, and I mean EVERY STAFF, misses the boat on a few prospects.  Recriting is inexact.  If it worked out perfect every time, they wouldn't have to bother playing the games.  They could just give victories to whoever reruited the best.

It sucks, but there are lots of people Michigan stopped recruiting that didn't pan out and, sadly, a number they kept recruiting who also failed to live up to their potential.  It's sports.
