track & field
Looks like Michigan has finally hired a Track & Field HC. This might actually make a difference with Adoree Jackson.
One of the nation's top field event coaches, Clayton has successfully developed individualized training programs for the sprints, hurdles and the field events. His work has produced 16 NCAA individual champions, 39 international team competitors, 24 qualifiers for the U.S. Olympic Trials and 33 participants in Olympic Games and World Championship competition.
SI.com article on what the writer is calling the greatest 45 minutes in sports history, which occurred 75 years ago tomorrow (5/25), with Jessie Owens tying or setting 4 world records in 4 different events at the 1935 Big 10 Championships at Ferry Field. The article sums up the accomplishment as:
Ferry Field still stands. Outside the track a plaque commemorates Owens' record-shattering day. It is, perhaps, the ultimate compliment in college sports that a University of Michigan athletic facility continues to honor the achievements of an Ohio State Buckeye.
The last update someone gave was the Meyo Invite so I'm just going to run down everything since the duel against osu that was on BTN.
Troy Woolfolks track debut saw him take 8th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.10, and 6th in the 200 meter dash at 23.05.
Rod McCravy Memorial Meet:
Denard Robinson returned for the first time since his win in "The Duel" with osu. He finished 9th in the 60 meter dash.
Je'Ron Stokes made his debut in the 60 meter hurdles in the prelims he ran 8.77, but did not make the finals.
Denard took 5th in the 60 meter dash with 6.84.
Troy Woolfolk ran the 60 meter dash also he ran a 7.03 in the prelims, but did not make the finals.
Je'Ron Stokes was slated to run the 60-meter hurdles. He false-started during heat six and did not run.
Grand Valley State Big Meet:
Je'Ron Stokes finished 36th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.87.
Denard finished 4th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.95.
Troy Woolfolk tied for 7th in the 60 dash at 7.05. He also finished 4th in the 200 meter dash at 22.65.
Je'Ron Stokes took 7th in the 60 hurdles at 8.75.
Up next for the track team is the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Minneapolis, Minn this weekend.
EDIT: The Big Ten Indoor Championships will be televised on the BTN on Tuesday March 9th at 9pm.
Also Denards fastest 60 is 6.81 which is .22 Slower then the fastest person in the NCAA this year. 6.81 makes Denard the 70th!!! fastest person at the 60 in the NCAA this year.
I'm going to be putting together a diary in the coming weeks in which MGoBlog readers will get to pick their favorite M team uniforms (varsity & club varsity).
I need a little help from those involved in the athletic program, or who follow the down-ticket sports.
If you'd like to be of assistance, I could use help with the following
1. Photo shout-out. If you got any good exemplary images of any team, send to misopogon at att dot net.
2. Thoughts on throwbacks: I want to include some of the more important throwbacks, since not every great M uniform is currently in use. Good idea/bad idea? Which are the most iconic that would warrant inclusion?
3. Swimming caps: I've seen the women wearing a cap with M's classic wings and stripes, but not the fellas. Anyone care to inform as to when/if our buoyant brethren and naiant1 sistren sport the wings rather than the block-M designs?
4. Peruse the list below and tell me if there are any unis (classic or modern) that have been omitted.
