The Univeristy of Michigan softball team won its home opener today against Bowling Green University Falcons (4-2). The win puts our record at 32-2. Michigan had 10 hits and committed 1 error.
It was 40°F with a wind chill factor of 36°F. The Humidity was 36% and the UV index was rated a 1. The wind was 6mph From the N. The sun peaked through several times during the game.
Michigan was led by Ashley Lane who went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored via a HR. Today's HR gives Ashley 11 HRs which ties for for the team lead with Dorian Shaw. The 2 RBIs give her 41 which leads the team. Ashely's HR came in the bottom of the 5th inning that was estimated to be 300 feet. It was a monster blast.
Amanda Chidester went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI. Lindsay Doyle went 2 for 3 as well, with 1 RBI.
Stephanie Speierman was in the circle today to improve her record to 15-0. She gave up 1 ER on 3 hits with 6 Ks and 6 BB. She also gave up 1 home run. Jordan Taylor came in relief in the top of the 7th inning, striking out 2, for the save.
Stephanie sturggled today against a very bad Bowling Green team. BGU has only 4 wins on the year. Stephanie's BB to K ratio is too high. A good pitcher should be about 1:2 and a great pitcher 1:3. Hutch is giving Stephanie gametime because once we get into the meat of the conference schedule, her playing time could be reduced.
We host Indiana this Saturday and Sunday, both games start at 2pm. The weather is forecasted to be in the 40s with a slight chance of rain.
The women's softball team made it a clean sweep this weekend in Clearwater Florida. They were playing in the USF tourney. Today, they beat USF 7-2.
The offense was led by Bree Evans who went 2 for 4, with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Her speed makes things happen. Nicole Sappingfield went 2 for 4, with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Dorian Shaw went 2 for 3 with a double and a BB. She also had 2 RBIs. Lindsay Doyle went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored.
The USF pitcher was slow but accurate. It took the Wolverines 5 innings to get her timing and score some runs. We scored 3 in the 5th and 4 in the 6th.
Hutch put Stephanie back on the horse today. She did rather well as compared to last night. She gave up 2ER on 3 hits, with 3 K, 1 BB and 2 HBP. JT came in to face the last 4 batters and stuck out 1, and forced the other 3 into hitting easy ground balls.
The Wolverines come basck home tonight and play in Louisville Ky next weekend. Then the following weekend is the Judi Garman Tourney. There is where we test our true metal. There will be 3 Top 25 teams to contend with.
