don't we all
The Wolverines finished up their 3 game series at Penn State with a big win. After being clubbed 11-1 in the opener, Michigan took game two 5-3 and finished off the series today with an 8-3 decision.
On the mound the Wolverine pitchers were great. Adcock was dealing going 6 innings, 2 hits and no earned runs. Vancena threw 1 2/3, 2 hits and one run.
Ogden got into a 9th inning jam facing 1st and 3rd with one out, but he got the 2nd out on a strikeout and finished the game with a groundout.
Another multi-error game has continued a rather unsettling trend and both runs from PSU came unearned from errors, one fielding the other a wild pitch.
At the plate Glines went 2-for-5, Bruder 2-for-5 but Travis Maezes broke the game open in the 7th. Leading 3-2 he went deep into the left field corner to score one, scored on a fielding error and doubled again in the inning to stretch the lead to 8-2. He finished 3-for-4 with four RBI.
The Wolverines improve to 21-14 overall and 6-6 in the Big Ten.
Up next: Tuesday vs Michigan State at Comerica Park
Right now Michigan is up 6-1 on EMU in the 4th inning at the Fish. Later tonight, your # 4 softball team takes on the Eagles from Alumni Field.
Anybody got plans for opening day for your respective team? Feeling especially optimistic about your team's chances this year?
For anyone coming out to Detroit, get here as soon as possible because it's going to be a mess with the construction on Woodward. The large street lots on Woodward are closed, and street parking is already mostly full.
Opening Night tonight and Opening Day tomorrow.
I love the game and have several favorites I follow throughout the season. I love the slowness of the game and yet there is so much speed in each individual play.
Are you watching tonight? Cubs don't have their bleachers in place due to construction. Plus, it's cold on the lake tonight! Cardinals are in town, so it should be electric.
Are you taking a sick day tomorrow to get to the game?
After Friday's game was pushed to a Saturday DH in which Michigan split, beating 2013 & 2014 B1G Champion Indiana Hoosiers 7-3 in game 1 and came up short in a 13-11 shootout, Michigan was looking to take the series against Indiana for the first time since 2010.
They proved they were for real this weekend when they took a 3-0 lead in the top of the 3rd. They built that lead because of a Drew Lugbauer RBI in the 2nd inning and a Carmen Benedetti 2-run homer in the third.
Indiana eventually cut the lead to 3-2 in the 7th inning, but Michigan tacked on an insurance run in the 8th with a Cody Bruder RBI.
Indiana hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth to inch closer making the score 4-3 Michigan, but Bryan Pall struck two Hoosiers out in a row to give Michigan the 4-3 upset victory in front of a packed Kaufman Field.
Michigan is now 18-13 and 4-5 in the B1G. All of their B1G games have come against teams that were ranked or ranked at some point this season. Definitely the meat of their schedule.
Now that that's out of the way and Michigan managed to go 4-2 in their last 6 after getting swept to open B1G play, Michigan should start racking up the wins.
Michigan will face EMU on Tuesday at 4pm before packing up and heading on the road again. This time to Penn State who is pretty mediocre at 8-17, 1-3 B1G. PSU plays OSU tomorrow again concluding their strange Sat-Sun-Mon weekend series.
With their Friday game postponed, the Wolverines took the diamond for a Saturday doubleheader.
In the first game Michigan took command early with a five run 5th inning, Maezes knocked in two and Benedetti had three RBI. On the mound Cronenworth started again and threw 6 innings, 5 hits and 5 strikeouts.
The Hoosiers best chance in the game came in the 8th with 2 errors and a wild pitch, but they only got 2 runs out of the inning.
Final score 7-3 Michigan.
The second game was a wild one.
This time, a 4 error game would be too much to overcome. Indiana jumped out to a 13-4 lead and took it into the 8th. Starting with a Jake Bivens walk, Michigan would get 7 men on base in the inning and knock 7 in.
Down two with a man on, Jake Bivens struckout but looked like he beat the pitch to 1st when the ball hit him. The umpire called runner interference and ended the inning.
Up next, the rubber match Sunday at 1.
