The way I read Buckeye Chuck…

The way I read Buckeye Chuck’s comment is that he AGREES with the Michigan fan base that the B1G needs to follow the process instead of handing down petty and premature (aka “Petitti”) punishments before an investigation is even completed.

Anyone who pays attention to the comments knows that BC is a very reasonable and level-headed guy who is very respectful in his comments. He’s also deeply knowledgeable about football. Respect where respect is due, and BC deserves that from us.

Fun fact tied to your hypothetical comparison – Volkswagen manufactures currywurst and serves it at their cafeteria each Tuesday. In classic VW AG fashion, there’s even a part number for their currywurst!

Gard deserves blame for provoking the incident, no doubt, and he should be disciplined for his role in fomenting this. That does not take away from the fact that what Howard did was worse – significantly worse. His role as a coach is to develop young players into whole athletes, and that includes sportsmanship in addition to ball-handling and shooting skills. Howard failed badly on that front.

My opinion about appropriate punishment is irrelevant, but Ward Manuel certainly has a mess on his hands and is going to need to act decisively to protect the reputation of Michigan Athletics. It’s a sad day.

He’s following the #1 rule of leadership – praise publicly, critique privately. He’s owning the loss himself, instead of throwing any individual or the team as a whole under the bus. I respect him for that. Something wasn’t right yesterday. Was it overconfidence, lack of preparation, lingering effects of the team “bug” from a couple of weeks ago, or was Ohio State sandbagging the entire season to lay a trap? It could any one or more of these things, but rest assured that The Game in Ann Arbor next year will be circled in blue and highlighted in maize on the calendar.
