The Refs were horrible and we all knew this before the game was over. If we win we are still complaining but not as much because we are busy celebrating. The fact is sometimes the Best team does not win the game. Michigan was the better team and we lost. I know how ND feels after UTL they were a better team that night and we stole it. The bad thing here is they didn't steal it. We bungled the last play they didn't earn it with a hail marry or trick play. Again sometimes the better team doesn't win. Does anyone really believe MSU is better than Michigan today. Maybe close but not better. Time to move on and hope for them to lose to another team and OSU.
Someone who is going needs to call Dunkin Donuts and say give me like $500 to make 100-200 signs that say Durkin Donuts. Hand them out all over. It would be funny and for $500 they get a ton of advertising.
I am seeing a lot more Smith picks than I would have thought. Not saying you are wrong but have I missed something coming out of practice? Any one care to elaborate more on why you picked him. I am Just more surprised by his name coming up.
At the coaching clinic "chalk talks " I remember Drevno talking about teaching on field vs class room. He was saying how kids are visual learners and need to see it on the field. He said you may have a guy or 2 that can pick it up in the class room but what about the rest of the guys (he referring to O Line) he said the kid/ kids that can pick it up in the class room are smart enought to learn it anywhere (class or grass) so might as well teach on field so everyone can learn by seeing it.
On a side note the guy is VERY enthusiastic and when going over a scheme with the coaches would make the group of coaches repeat it out load many times to drive home the point. (Ex: where to target a defender on a specific blocking assignment ) You can tell he loves to teach.
I didn't stay long for Saturday practice but I did see a #7 play some H back on offense on a few walk thru reps. There was no name on back but I assumed it was Poggi. I know Bama recruited him for offense so I wonder if we see more of him on that side of ball. (I know he was on Def in video, so prob trying multiple positions )
It will be a crazy few days but i have this calm feeling that I have not had in some time. Knowing that no matter what happens we are in great hands and on Sat afternoons I won't be yelling at the TV in anger nearly as much.
I heard him speak at the coaching clinic last year (maybe ther year before) seems like a sharp guy and his program was like a small college program not high school. It was impressive.
I thought I would share my experience with playing a team extremely under matched. I was head coach of a 8th grade football team. We were very good (mostly the players) but also the coaches. I knew well ahead of time we were playing a team with 0 wins and the previous year our team lost only 1 close game in a 7-8 grade division so I knew this game could get ugly. I wanted to challenge my team and have them use this game to get better and I am not an advocate for giving less than 100%. In this situation a coach needs to think outside the box on how to make his team better and give 100% with out running up the score. To do this I challenged my team by only calling pass plays for almost the entire 1st half. In junior high running pass plays is harder than simply running the ball with a superior team. I also told my QB to not scramble/run for first downs but to scramble and find an open receiver or throw the ball away. ( many parent/fans and his parents would yell at him to run and even said something to him about this during the game) we did not call long pass plays but worked on executing short routes to move the chains. After a quarter and a half the score was 0-0 still after a RB screen was called back for a TD an assistant finally convinced me to call some running plays. I reluctantly agreed and 2 plays and 80 yards later it was 7-0. By the end of the third it was 28-0 with a pick 6 and the third string was in passing ( opposing teams parents were not happy about the passing but this was the best way to get good work in for my players an not run up the score. I learned this idea from basketball in my youth. My dad made us pass the ball to each player 1 time before shooting to get ball movent before someone could take a shot. Coaches need to challenge their players in Unique ways and slow the running of the score up.
Side note: I noticed there were 0 fouls from opposing team so I am wondering if the losing team was even capable of guarding anyone or this was a lot of fast break action
I do want to give that reporter credit for the question about finishing out the contract. It seemed to ask 1 question and could give answers to many questions. I just thought it was a smart choice of question to ask. With that said screw NFL reporters.... HARBAUGH !!!
I still keep coming back to how there is no rumors of us talking to plan B. If they don't have this wrapped up I think we would have at least heard us talking to other coaches. We have heard exact opposite.
Part of the plan couldn't have been to , still coach the rest of the year with 49ers. Leak the deal after playoffs were out of the picture so you can start to put a staff together. Let that staff hit the ground running when the recruiting dark period ends?
I feel like we may be over thinking this. That may be the case and the fan base can move on to the new coach but I don't remember hearing specific numbers like this and the candidate or player not take job/ position Ect. I mean we already had the report that Michigan offered and he wanted to stay in the NFL 2 weeks ago.
Do leaks like this happen often ? I know there are leaks about offers all the time but when I hear offers like this with specific details it usually means it is about to be accepted . Maybe I am wrong. Can anyone think of a situation like this and the answer is "no"
I have a hard time remembering when Specific details of an offer were reported on and the person didn't take the offer. Is it just me? I think I am plugged into sports enough that I would remember a situation like this happening and they say no. Am I wrong?
Here is to hoping that Hackett has an inside track with Harbaugh or Miles and that is why he may be named full time AD. I am also hoping the firing happened today and not Monday because Jim Harbaugh didn't want to field questions at his press conference yesterday. I am going to keep my tin foil hat on today.
We win and cover the spread. Mark my words. This is setting up to be a second half blow out. Final score 52-16
This kool aid is delicious and never gets old.
