His use of the word "events" may rule out:

(1) new teams (also agree that the rumor mill would have leaked this already)

(2) a cable deal (maybe add BTN to basic plus? please?)

I really wish it was #2 given how hard it is to catch all the U of M games in the NYC area. I just don't see that happening especially with Time Warner's position on negotiating rates (they dropped CBS!!). Can't see TW buying into the benefit of paying for BTN on basic plus - especially since they were willing to drop MSG network a year or two ago. If MSG wasn't worth the cost / benefit... tough sell on BTN.

So my guess is some more events along the lines of UM hoops vs. WVU. Maybe a multi-game bball series over a weekend with a few B1G teams at Barclays or MSG.

Naw

I like the idea but disagree. Public schools coach football players from age 14 how to hit hard and hurt each other. You may play football and avoid injury, but you won't avoid the hits that may cause injury.

Drugs are not UNAVOIDABLE in the arts. High correlation? Sure. But it's not ingrained in the activity like hard hits are ingrained in football.

Said another way - our schools aren't teaching performing arts students how to do drugs (well except Community High in AA...)

Great quotes

"I've only seen two players in high school with a body like that," the USC coach says, "and both of them are named Peterson [Adrian and Patrick]."

and:

Back at the Paramus Catholic track, Russo looks at the USC coach and mentions off-handedly that he must have a plethora of athletes who look like Peppers on his roster.

"We don't have anyone who looks like that," the coach says.

Grantland write-up on Devin

Kinda OT but just saw this on Grantland - mostly fluff but still enjoyable read. I can't post new threads so somebody take it and run with it.
