What would it take for RR to win Coach of the Year?

I submit to you 9-3 including wins over ND and OSU.

No way, For National Coach of the year, RR would at least have 10 wins and probably a sweeping of ND, MSU, and OSU.

A share of the Big Ten title, a bowl game victory, and no BCS wins for non-BCS conference teams should be enough. If he beats OSU in the process, it's practically automatic. Book it.

They vote for Coach of the Year before the bowl games, like the Heisman and all other awards, right? So we shouldn't take bowl game performance into account. Not only would we need to at least be close to the top of the Big Ten, at about 9-3 or better, but we'd need help. If Florida, Oklahoma, or one of the other big schools with a coach who has already won ends up winning the NC, then the voters will likely look to another team, and RR will be a great candidate if he pulls off such a big turnaround. If, say, UCLA or another team comes out of the woods and has an undefeated season, then that coach will win.

I'd guess a BCS bowl game, which probably sums up most of the other posts in this thread (such as beating OSU, MSU, and ND, because if we do that, I'd be DAMN surprised if we didn't win the BigTen). Tedford is another name to watch if CAL somehow usurps USC. Anyone pulling that feat in a non-fluke type way (like the Stanford style losses) would also have a damn good shot.

In the Big Ten: 5-3 or better. Nationally: probably 10-2 (Strange but true: in 1997, Lloyd Carr won some national CoY awards, but did not win it in the Big Ten. Joe Tiller did.)

After the snake oil (and cash) he used on recruits, then kicking out poor Mallet, Boren, and all the other kids who just wanted some family values . . . it would be tough. Of course this year he started that meth lab with Feagin (that caught fire), then the puppy drowning incident. I think he'd need some divine intervention. and snake oil.

It would take only 2 things for him to get COY, I don't see either of them happening though. 1. Understanding The Rivalry 2.Understanding that this is not the Big East and that Spread football cannot win in the late season Big Ten weather.
