Team's net worth

Submitted by old fan on

Just stumbled upon the list of most profitable football teams from Forbes (a fairly weird combination of money to the school and the area).   Apparently we pulled in a profit of 36.2 million (from 85 million value).  Makes you wonder why a big deal was made out of the buy out.  Doesn't a good season pay for this in less than 1 year.  Anyone know how much of this actually goes to athletic department.

  • Notre Dame is first with 45.8 million (101 million value)
  • Texas second 46.2 (92 million value)
  • Georgia is third 43.5 (90 million value)
  • Ohio State is 10th.

What do you think the difference is that would make Texas and Georgia so high?  Seems to me like the stadium size would make the most difference. What else would there be (other than Notre Dame's solo NBC contract)?

I'm guessing that profit is really football related revenue. I've heard that Michigan makes roughly $4M per home game. I wonder how they came up with a total value? A multiple of "profit"? Some cumulation of historical profits?
