Spring Game Ideas

Submitted by Bama Wolverine on
Will be making my virgin trip to the spring game. Arriving around noon on the 16th, staying at the Courtyard Marriott, for you veterans where are the good places to eat, hang out, and general things to do while there? Any and all ideas are welcome.

For non game day- Since its spring you should defiantly go to an awesome outdoor bar called Dominick's. Also, I would check out the arb. For game day- There will probably be lots of parties and tailgating going on. Make some friends and join one of them...

For dinners definitely head to Main Street - any kind of food you want. Some places are pricier than others, but they're all delicious. Its a strip of restaurants on Main between about Packard and Huron Personally I love Palio for Italian, get the baked asiago appetizer, it's amazing. Usually $20ish per person if you don't get wine. For Mexican go to Prickly Pear (across the street from Palio), homemade chips and salsa, outstanding fajitas - and relatively inexpensive (fajitas for 2 with a drink each is like $30 total)

Bring me some Sangria from Dominick's to my work ASAP! That should go perfect with Tourney bball streaming from my computer. Extremely productive day from me.

Here's what I'd do anyway. Friday: unload your bags at the Marriott, jump in a blue-cab to State and South U. Talk to the cabby. If (s)he's like most blue cab drivers, (s)he'll be hella chatty. Talk about Ann Arbor. Get his/her cell number so you can call for a taxi later. Get a cup of coffee at Amer's in the Michigan Union, start a conversation with an attractive co-ed by asking how to get to the Arb. If (s)he's carrying books, feign interest in whatever (s)he's studying. Also ask how to get to Moe's Sports Shop and Dominick's. Remember those directions for later. Exit the Union, walk around the Diag. Walk into the Grad Library. It's a pretty cool building. Admire the ceiling in the reading room. Exit the library. Head to Burton Bell Tower. Admire the fountain in front; hopefully it will be turned on, tulips planted around it. Pretty. If you can go up into the Bell Tower, do it so you can say you did. Walk over to the Law Quad. Beautiful architecture. Enter the law library. Be very quiet. Admire the woodwork, old-school Oxford design, stained glass. You must be thirsty by now. Remember the hot co-ed's directions to Dominick's? It's practically next-door! Order a pitcher of Sangria and a jug of the frozen stuff. Imbibe. Order a pizza. Have fun and carouse. Meet people. Talk about football. It's got to be damn near 5 o'clock by now, so get up and head to Moe's to do a little damage to the credit card. Purchase as much Michigan gear as you can afford. For fam and friends, yourself, your dog, your Aunt Nancy with the gimpy leg...whomever. Also, buy a blue cow-bell. Exit Moe's, head to Stucci's for a gelato. It will make you love your life. Regroup at the hotel. Whip out your phone and make a few phone-calls to Ann Arbor Brewing Co., Grizzly Peak, Palio, Real Seafood Co., etc. Find out what the specials are tonight. Ask if there's a long wait for a table. Choose your destination and go to there. Now you're fat and happy, but thirsty again. If you're at Ann Arbor Brewing Co., stay where you are. If not, I suggest O'Neils, Ashley's, or Red Hawk for a more mature crowd. Drink, but not too heavily. Tomorrow is game-day. Before you head back to the hotel, buy a sixer of Bell's Oberon at the Blue-Front or Campus Corner by State and Packard. Saturday: wake up; throw on the fresh gear you bought at Moe's. You look awesome. Take a fresh Oberon out of the mini-fridge and drink it. You feel awesome; it's game day! Play the Victors on your i-pod as you drink another beer. Call your cabby and get to the Stadium. Bring the cow-bell with you, and lead your section of the crowd in a few well-placed "Go Blue" cheers. Well done; feel proud of yourself. Post-game, see if you can get a few autographs. Take lots of pictures. Call your cabby and get dropped off at South U and Washtenaw. People watch the frat and sorority girls heading to the Brown Jug. Don't follow them...yet. Remember how to get to the Arb? Good; go there. Walk around a bit. Take pictures. This is Ann Arbor and it is awesome. OK, now you can go to the Jug. Get to the bar and order a round of shots for whoever is within arm's reach. It's a college bar; you've only spent $20. Rejoice. Say 'Go Blue' and pound that shot. Get another. Well done, you've made friends with the undergrads. Say, "this town is f***ing awesome; who wants a goddamn burrito?" Hands will go up. Go get a burrito from Panchero's. An El Gordo. Steak. Black Beans. Extra cheese. Guac. Hot salsa. Enjoy the shit out of that and head to Scorekeepers. Ask one of your new buddies how to get there; they're probably heading there next. Or go wherever they're going. Unless it's Rick's and you're over 30. In that case, head back to whatever bar you went to last night. But stop on the way for another gelato at Stucci's. It's getting late; call cabby. Go to hotel with a new sexy co-ed friend. Go to bed. Call cabby to pick up your sexy co-ed friend. Sleep. Go Blue.

but if you like beer at all, you have to go to Ashley's. It has the most amazing array of choices for beers I have ever seen. No matter what you like they have plenty of it. Try the really high proof ones early, and the lower ones late (the opposite can be a really bad idea) For tailgaiting on gameday, you can go to the golf course, the high school lot, or find a house with people playing "flippy-cup" outside on a table. That's good times... Get to the staduim early enough to pick out some good seats. See you there! I can't wait - GO BLUE!!!
