Rumor: Former Paramus Catholic HC to join UM in some capacity

Submitted by antonio_sass on

There's some rumors out there that Michigan could be adding a recruiting coordinator/assistant with very strong ties to Paramus Catholic HS

Jabril Pepper's former coach. Would probably give us a huge in with #1 2016 DT Rashan Gary.

This is a great hire for UM. I AN FROM NJ AND HAVE WATCHED PARTRIDGE BUILD THAT PROGRAM. Yes he pissed of 3 coaches in the whole state of NJ. Toal(Bosco), Nunzio(Bergen), Hansen(SPP). The reason why pissing off Bosco and Bergen should mean nothing to UM is because they are of no value to UM. Yes they are traditional names, but they no longer turn out the type of players that would or could help turn UM around. This is why they are mad with Partridge. Partridge created an atmosphere at PC that was very attractive to kids and in turn kids responded by choosing his school over traditional powers. It also lead to kids at other programs such as Bosco, Bergen, and SPP transferring out or attempting to transfer to PC. This pissed the 3 schools off. Truth is, even when Bosco and Bergen were producing game changing talent they never chose UM. Those two schools are system schools. They have great coaching and resources so they will beat you on that alone, but as for having game breakers they no longer have them because PC gets them. Look over the last 7 years how many kids were actually successful in college from those two programs. Then you will understand why Rutgers is a bottom feeder featuring those programs best. Rutgers was built on Public school kids from fla, NJ, NY, and St. Joseph Montvale which currently has 6 kids playing in the NFL since 2005 when Schiano was in charge. Moral of the story is SPP is of concern because they turn out real talent not overhyped system guys like bosco and bergen, but you should have no worries about a possible loss of a kid from Bosco or Bergen. There are a lot of schools in NJ bosco and bergen just happen to have enough rich guys to make it appear that only they exist. Not to mention that PARENTS ULTIMATELY DECIDE WHERE THEIR KIDS GO. UM is a great school and would be of interest to ANY PARENT! Partridge has contacts throughout the state of NJ that the kids know and trust (THESE CONTACTS HAVE MORE SAY THAN THESE COACHES THAT THE KIDS MEET AT AGE 15) and this is why he was able to build PC so fast. RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE COMMUNITY PEOPLE THAT MATTER.

I have to agree with you... The only question is if PC will be able to sustain what Partridge developed (I believe they will).. To be honest, I think PC is more important than the other schools in questions.. So I think Partridge is worth it for Michigan if they do hire him...

Do these recruitng analysts interact with recruits off-campus, or do they just watch film and analyze recruits and possibly interact with them on-campus? I am guessing they are in the Chris Singletary mold. I've seen photos of him with recruits on-campus, but I don't think I've heard of him going off-campus to recruit.

I have a relative with one of these non-coaching admin positions in basketball (I assume the rules are the same in both sports)--he makes recruiting trips on occasion but can't interact with the players off campus. He can watch, he can be visible in the gym wearing the school colors so the recruits know they're there and interested, but that's about it.

I don't know how common that sort of thing is in football. You can get a lot of work done at a big AAU tournament without talking to anybody--there's a lot of potential recruits in the building at the same time, playing competitive games. There's not really anything similar in football.

That's true, but couldn't that be why we are potentially hiring more than one person in this type of position? So they can spread out? Maybe as long as they don't talk to recruits, they can go all over to all the games to watch individual players. Or maybe they will all just stay in Michigan and watch film and talk to kids when they are here. I guess we'll see!
