RR coaches clinic

Submitted by dpowell7 on
Ok I was thinking about something, RR puts on a clinic every year teaching hs coaches about his offensive system. How many other coaches do this? Also do you think he might be doing this to try and get high school to run his system so its easier to recruit, and the recruits will already have a grasp on the offense? I don't know if this point has any merrit to it but I dont recall llyod ever doing anything like this. If that is indeed his plan its brilliant.

I'm interested to see what the atmosphere is "at the building." I'm going to the coaches clinic for the first time. The head coach I'm going with didn't have a lot of glowing praise after last year's clinic. He's old school so this new-fangled spread offense (and lots of MFing) might be a little too much for him. LOL. I guess I'll find out.

2nd that. We attended spring clinics for M and Purdue. Once you broke down to position coaches, they tended to provide more detail to their basic schemes. You have the opportunity to ask a questions based on circumstances you may face (3/4 versus 5/2, etc.) Since our team was transitioning into a spread/zone run package, our trip to M was more academic; unlike Purdue, where we spent a lot of time and energy learning the system.

"Also do you think he might be doing this to try and get high school to run his system so its easier to recruit, and the recruits will already have a grasp on the offense? However, it can't hurt to have a lot of coaches feel a little indebted to you or see you as a mentor. Also, coaches are human, and giving them the opportunity to drop your name in a positive way in casual conversation can't hurt, either. Long term, though, this can only help. "Spreading" the spread to a point to where it will probably become the most popular offense in HS can only help RR down the road. As you pointed out, the kids will come in a lot more ready to run it at UM if it was their base offense in HS.
