OT: Va Tech RB Darren Evans Tears ACL

Submitted by HartAttack20 on
It looks like Virginia Tech's stud RB tore his ACL in practice. He's going to be out for the season, and this is a pretty big hit to Virginia Tech. Their backup is also good, but Evans set some records as a freshman. He had 1,265 yards and 11 touchdowns. I wish this kid a speedy recovery, and I hope Va Tech has a strong season anyways. I want to see this team make it to the title game. EDIT: My bad forgot the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4392725

And the sounds of ESPN executives weeping can be heard from miles away... That sucks, it looked like Virginia Tech was finally going to have an offense to go with that defense. I'm not the biggest VT fan, but I still don't like seeing players of any team suffer injuries like that.

Given how wide open the job competition was last summer for all their skill positions, I was surprised that Williams didnt factor in the equation and redshirted. It was nice seeing Evans emerge last season, but Williams was one the best TBs in the 2008 high school class, and one of the highest ranked players the Hokies ever recruited at that position. We'll see if he takes the ball and, uh, runs with it. Regardless, they will be fine. Rinder and Tyrod getting injured would worry me, not a running back.

Saw that. Hope he makes a speedy recovery. VT has always bothered me a little bit because of the Marcus Vick thing, but eh... They thought they could bring him along.

They still will have a solid defense, but this is a big blow to them. Hopefully Tyrod Taylor can develop more as a passer.. that would help immensely.

I hate injuries to star players in camp. It is a big blow to the team and he doesn't even get to play any games. I think Ryan Williams will do a serviceable job but Evans looked terrific last season.

This is the worst part about fall camp. I don't like seeing people get injured in games, but I'd much rather they get injured while competing in a game than in practice. It just seems like such a waste.

I think that Taylor should help soften the blow a bit, but Evans was a beast last year, and you figure he would be even better this season. Hopefully he'll be back sometime late in the year, or at least be ready to go next season.

They'll be fine (unfortunately.) There isn't much experience at RB, but then again Evans was inexperienced last year too. Ryan Williams and David Wilson are fine. Taylor's running skills aren't in question, either.
