OT: (At least) 2 Wolverines win Oscars Tonight

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on

This came across my FB feed: the best original song award tonight was won by "City of Stars" from La La Land. It was written by UM grads Justin Paul and Benj Pasek. Congrats, Gentlemen.

Why watch a bunch of overpaid elites? All these people do anymore is stuff their political beliefs down our throats. These people try telling us what is right and what is wrong. We're called "brown shirts" and nazi's by the likes of Merril Streep and her cronies. I'm sorry, but hollywood is overrated, lowest movie ticket sales in 20 years. Oscar ratings were terrible. I think people are tired of your bullshit Hollywood.

give their opinion man, that is all they do. If you can't appreciate a specific talent, filmmaking, and are not able to separate it from your political disagreement with them, than it is probably your thought process that is suffering right now. That sounds like Hollywood "black list" talk from back when freedom of speech was feared and despised. That stuff is dangerous thought.

If I read this right, the first Oscar won by a Wolverine went to Charles Crawford Davis (COE: 1916), won 1948 Oscar for his invention of the Davis Drive System, a system for merging sound with pictures and driving the film through movie cameras and projectors. Several winners and nominees, including James Earl Jones (voice of Darth Vader, M-hype video), Christine Lahti, John Nelson.
