GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Yes!!!!!!!!
Wow, 1-0 USA on Dempsey's flick!
Wow, Davies could have made it 2-0 there, nice hustle back by the Brazil defender.
Yeah, US is showing some great hustle all around. Donovan is flying around the field.
I sure wouldn't mind a little less play in our own end, but I think you have to expect that against Brazil. Howard's been solid.
OHHHHHH SHIT!!! WOOOO!!!!!!!! Donovan goal!
Wow, I haven't yelled that much at home during a sports game in a while!
Keep it up boys!
And what have they done with the guys who got blown out by Costa Rica?
Tim Howard is playing like he's possessed.
How was that not a card when the play had been blown dead and homie took a shot on goal anyway?
Is it a common thing in Brazil that people go by just one name? (three or four players on their team, plus their coach, have only one name)
http://www.slate.com/id/2143404/
Pretty decent explanation.
Yeah it's fairly common for people in the public eye, but disproportionately so for soccer players.
Looks like we got ourselves a game all of a sudden.
is the biggest whiner in world football. Well, second to Cristiano Ronaldo. But at least Ronaldo tries hard every game.
Holy shit. Could this happen?
As per OP, at this point, even if we lose it is a great showing to even scare the Brasileros. Already happy.
They had better start playing some D, B just banked one off the inside of the cross-bar and Howard got VERY lucky.
That was a goal.
....it would have taken 15 seconds to review Kaka's header to see whether it crossed the line, which it did.
FIFA again, due to its insolence, has prejudicially affected one of its tournaments. A final, no less.
That was either in or with a micron of the ball still on the line before Howard knocked it away. Lucky the ref couldn't tell.
I'm finally starting to get numb to these vuvuzelas. It's worse at the beginning of the game when everyone wants to get in on the act, but most of these people have blown their lungs out by now.
....booing Dani Alves every time he does something? A little weird.
Look at the bright side. They don't whistle like in Europe. Can you imagine the combination of the buzzing and the whistling? I'd rip my eardrums out with a fork.
would be terrible. As it is, I will probably not watch many World Cup games next year if these stupid horns aren't banned for non-South-Africa games.
So given a choice between not watching or using the mute button, you would pick the former? Seems kinda dumb.
It is a nice way to remember that I'm wasting a lot of time out of my life trying to watch 63 games in four weeks. I'll just watch the games that are "must-watch" ones, instead of, for example, Japan v. Norway, or something similar.
Because he scored the gwg against South Africa in the semis.
Thanks.
If Howard hadn't been ridiculously good for the first 75 minutes, we'd be down at least three by now.
Ahh well. Guess it was too good to be true.
And we've officially reverted to looking like the team that got smoked by Costa Rica and was damn lucky to scrape past El Salvador with a draw.
WHERE WAS THE DEFENDER ON THE FAR POST? DAMMIT BRADLEY...
bradley? are you blaming that on bob?
normally teach and dictate how to defend a corner? If not his fault, then it's Tim Howard's fault.
i'm not a huge fan of bob bradley. but sometimes the blame should go on the players.
...a little
there's a more tired cliche in world soccer than "brazil playing like brazil."
They were also playing like modern brazil when getting run by the US in the first half - petulant babies (robinho and luis fabiano) running around whining for a foul.
Brazil playing like Brazil can...I didn't get to see the first half and I do know they are whiners, but then a lot of teams/players are. It is an unfortunate aspect of the game that the rules are applied as such...believe me I hear about that from U.S. soccer detractors all the time when they indicate soccer players are pussies.
Brasil began pressing and creating chances like a top-tier team does and was able to exploit glaring weaknesses in the U.S. defense to score 2 goals in the final minutes.
Perhaps better to say, Brasil is playing like Brasil can, and U.S. is playing like U.S. does.
WOOOO! Never wake a sleeping giant and all that.
I'd have taken it in a heartbeat.
Brazil actually scored four goals though. It's time Fifa adopted some sort of replay system. Not to take anything away from the US, who had a great tournament, but Brazil demonstrated themselves today and in the group stage to be a vastly better team. I don't mean that to be inflammatory, but I think it's clear that the US national team is still at a place where it has to rely on luck (and/or absurd Tim Howard performances) to beat a top international squad.
How would you implement a review system? Where would you put the cameras since the tv feeds don't have the correct angles?
I think red cards, goals and penalty calls should be reviewable. You could give the teams a couple challenges a half. And as to camera angles, telebeam- the fancy thing they use to freeze a shot and simulate 3D has been around since the late 80s, but using that shouldn't be necessary. TV camera angles usually do a good enough job. But also, is there a reason there can't be goal line cameras?
You could use goal line cameras, but I think that on most of the calls where they're really needed, they'll be useless due to an obstructed view.
As for review systems in general, I just don't like them. Challenges give coaches one more thing to butcher and reviews aren't always correct and they're rarely definitive. Just look at Bradley's red against Spain. The video was being used by people on this board to both justify and criticize the call.
EDIT: When would you issue a challenge? The next stoppage? When you have possession? Could non-calls become send offs?
The challenge could be issued either at the next stoppage or within something like 10 seconds of your team getting possession. And to your final question, I may be alone on this, but I think if a player gets injured and the ref doesn't see how it happened, the ref should have the option of reviewing the play and possibly sending the offending player off.
Out of curiosity, why are you a Brazil fan?
I'm Brazilian by birth and on my mom's side.
Ahh okay, that makes more sense.
It's just tough being a US soccer fan because many of the soccer fans in this country will not root for the national team. Hopefully that will change.
I'd have been fine with a 3-2 loss that didn't involve going up 2-0 in the first half. Playing like complete crap in the second was not cool.
I question the subs brought in. I was hoping I would never have to see klestian(sp) after the cost rica game
I question the coaching in general. Bradley did an abysmal job of preparing the team in the second half. We'll qualify for the Cup, but who is going to be surprsed when we get knocked out in the first round?
I wanted to see Altidore stay in longer. I know he was tired but he's the team's biggest goal scoring threat and Klejstan can't come anywhere near replacing him
Altidore was too spent to be of use, and should have come out long before.
Isn't there anyone we could have sent in that isn't total deadweight?
