I agree with the sentiment, but not the solution.  What if schools were rewarded with additional scholarships for having a higher graduation rate or something along those lines?  I suppose they would just find a way to fudge those results then too.

Make the scholarships good for 4 years + 1....if the a student athlete leaves school before the conclusion of the 4th year, the scholarship still counts against the university's limit. Increase the maximum scholarship number to 100. If a student leaves school for any reason, they still count as though they are still on scholarship. Could solve many of the medical scholarship/over-signing issues out there, but let's be realistic, it will never happen.

Tressel left or was forced out, and their current coach has "interim" in his title. Unless Fickell proves to be brilliant, this is going to hurt recruiting and their program in general regardless of whether or not they get additional sanctions.

OSU caught Tressel before he got the chance to fire Gordon Gee and start running the whole school.   So give credit where credit is due.

I can't do it anymore.  My emotions are drained.  I will do my best to forget about it, and if it happens the way we hope, I will wake up one day to a 500-post celebratory thread on the MGoBoard and smile.

he can still go to classes and complete his degree researching research but has to stay away from the athletic program, can't use the facilities to beef up for the RoughRiders, can't score any sideline passes, etc.  Bit different from the disassociation U of M had to do with the basketball players.

and get nothing but a slap on the wrist - then the NCAA is doomed as an enforcement entity.

Head coaches and AD's are responsible for self-policing the activities of their student athletes.  Remember, tsio led the nation in the number of self-reported NCAA violations during tressel's tenure .. this was NOT by accident.  This was concieved so that the NCAA believed that tsio was always on the up and up, but IMO this was simply tressle's method to get away with whatever he wanted.  tressle's lying at tsio goes all the way back to Maurice Clarett (and Youngstown State pre-tsio).

The tats and cars have been there since tressle started.  Most people think the Ohio BMV cleared them of wrongdoing .... nope, just found that all tax was paid for the cars as they were sold.  Nothing to do with players receiving the use of cars ...

Bottom line ... tsio is in serious trouble.  They ARE a repeat offender.  And this was the head coach ... not some out of control booster.  The NCAA has no choice on this one ... this should make USC look like after-school detention.

If SI hadnt wrote that article Osu would be getting crushed right now.  All the pieces would still be on the table, Tp, Tress..they would have to answer to the evidence without knowing all of it.  it was a huge heads up for the administration.  They got the jump on a strategy to limit the consequences.  as long as their are scollies lost I'll be satified.
