OL could use some tweeking

Not to nitpick too much after a win, but the OL was just average in this game. Just watched the film again and they missed a lot of blocks and had 3 holding penalties. Brian will no doubt break this down play by play, but there is some work to be done on the OL. They struggled at times. Molk has a tough job as the center and I dont mean to single him out. There was a play at :53 seconds left in the first quarter at mid-field where D Rob took the ball on a QB draw and if Molk makes his block he is gone for a TD because there is a seal right up the middle with only the safety to beat...but Molk missed the ILB and the guy knifed in to make the play... not singling out Molk because he is a good player, but those types of things need to improve because this offense has the potential to be very explosive this year. There were a few TDs waiting to happen that never did. Im sure Coach Frey will be all over those things.

game. It wasnt a dominant performance by any stretch, but I think it was a good job by the OL to give Tate time and open some holes for the RBs. Lots of room to improve but solid first game.

Yeah I agree...there were some bright spots as well...Molks double block on the screen to Hemingway was fantastically athletic and showed great hustle. I didnt mean to be so critical, its just that they will need to be better next week

Hard to complain considering the outcome. The passblocking was actually better than the run blocking but we by no means dominated the inside run blocking against a very undersized and apparently not particularly talented Western front 7. This week will obviously be a HUGE barometer of where this team really stands. I'm happy we beat Western because hopefully it stands for our program stomping the teams they're supposed to stomp and I see at least five games on the schedule that fit into that category. Next week will be a big big test.

Nice catch on the QB ratings. Tate in the top 20! I know he was going against a very young and inexperienced secondary, but it was g-r-e-a-t to see! Hope that GERG has the D ready to move Clausen down 30 spots. The OL did fine. Not perfect by any means, but you rarely see perfection by any unit on the field.

and will have to clean up for next week. I loved everything about yesterday, but after seeing ND and knowing that Tenuta is now in full charge of their Defense, they will bring the house on every play, with all kinds of creative blitzes that Tate likely hasn't seen before. It will be a real challenge that I can't wait to see.

Surprisingly we were better at pass pro than run blocking. I really couldn't believe it. But yeah, run blocking was good not great. Frey and staff will work out the kinks and get the OL prepped for Notre Dame.
