Ohio State considered going independent to play 2020 season. Ramifications?

"In response to a public records requests, Ohio State produced documents — obtained by 247Sports’ Patrick Murphy and Chris Hummer — that show e-mails and text messages regarding the COVID-19 landscape from leaders in the Buckeyes program."

And some serious thought was made towards going independent for 2020, at least in football.

Would that be feasible? What would the ramifications have been for big ten? Or would the conference grovel and take them back regardless?
