mystery date

Submitted by Snidely Doo Rash on
For those interested in next year's schedule, I thought I'd throw out a few straws. WMU seems to be set for 9/5 (saw this date somewhere on the net) and ND is set for 9/12, so that leaves 9/19 as the open date before the big ten kicks in. Why not play a top team, preferably one who has lost some key players to see where we are at? Maybe the Citadel would come calling.

There are two more games that aren't scheduled. Any one know when the other one is? Aug28? I don't think we will play any one that is supposed to be "good". There was another post about it and the consensus seemed to be that we should try to schedule easy wins so we can get a decent record next season and make it to a bowl game.

It is unlikely that UM would schedule a non-conference game between Iowa and Penn State so games will be probably added on 8/28 and 9/19 to bring the 09 schedule to 12 games. Then again, Hawaii was scheduled after Ohio St several years ago so that is possible. I think Martin & co. pick up one challenging opponent--preferably on the 19th and an "easier" game for kickoff weekend.

Wow, that is not the way the game is played as long as the BCS exists and the emphasis is on overall records for bowl bids. You schedule at least 3 easy non-conference games to get 3 sure wins. Why do you think a NON-conference game was added as the 12th game?? Then, all you have to do is go 3-5 in conference to make a bowl game. and if you go 4-4 (should be pretty easy) you get a decent bowl bid (overall record 7-5). If you want to change that, you are asking M to schedule for failure!! Take a look at all the top teams -- they all have easier non-conference schedules than M. Go to a PLAYOFF system that is based primarily on Conference records and then everyone can be more realistic on scheduling.
