Men's Lacrosse Home vs. Hofstra Noon Today

Men's Lacrosse returns home to take on the Hofstra Flying Dutchmen- I mean Hofstra Pride - at 12PM today at the State Street stadium.  Game will be airing on BTN+ I believe? I don't think I get that but I'll try to follow along.

Michigan is coming off a tough 17-13 loss in their opener to a #1 Virginia squad. But it was a very promising performance against an absolutely loaded team that is favored to win the national championship. Michigan hung right with them the whole way and were down 1-2 goals most of the game. But, ultimately, they got a few bad calls at the end and ran out of gas against an extremely talented team.  Michigan got great contributions from Ryan Cohen and Josh Zawada and actually had a pretty balanced attack with 8(!) different players recording a goal.  Overall, it was the kind of effort that makes you think they can take on anyone.

I don't know much about Hofstra but they're traditionally a strong program. However, they've fallen off significantly since head coach John Danowski left for Duke. Since then they've been very inconsistent, occasionally posting an 11-win season but more often putting up middling 8 win seasons and missing the tournament. They're already 0-2 this season with losses to Merrimack and Navy, so this should definitely be W for Michigan. But a win against Hofstra will always look good on the resume.

GO BLUE!

Saw this game live.  It was a great win, and Conry should be really happy with how the team responded down the stretch.  Made stops, got a great look on a final possession, won face offs in the 4th and controlled possession to end the game.

Clay is back from injury and contributing at midfield.  Lockwood isn’t starting on attack but is on the starting man up.  Very interested to see how he progresses, but I think he slots into the starting lineup after zawada graduates.  Brown is still finding his footing but looks dangerous.

There were still some early season slip ups.  A number of failed clears to start the game, and one point where all middies subbed off at the same time while a Hofstra middie had the ball and led directly to an important goal.  So still some room for improvement.

Nice - I was following the score online and was getting a little nervous.  I saw in the box score that two goalies played.  Did Carr get hurt or did he get pulled?  I thought he was very much not himself vs. Virginia. Hope he's OK.

And I guess I should stop reading tea leaves, considering Michigan followed up a game in which they could've beaten a #1 team if a few things went their way with a near-disaster vs an 0-2 team. But, I watched some of the Virginia-Harvard game because Michigan plays Harvard in a few weeks and...it was a complete blowout. When I turned it on Virginia was up 9-0 in the first quarter. The final ended up 25-21 but it was 11-2 after the first and Virginia's lead reached 12 at one point. Only a flurry of goals at the end made it respectable. Hope that means something for Michigan?!
