LeVert getting some love from Forde

Submitted by MoJo Rising on

While I typically do not like pre season hype stories, it is nice to read some positive news about Michigan for once. Forde has some very positive things to say about Caris. Here's hoping Caris and the Michigan team grow and become a force this season.

16. Caris LeVert, Michigan. Gifted athlete played a supporting role his first two years in John Beilein's system. Now he's ready for a star turn. LeVert was hardly destined for that role, though – he was a mid-major recruit ticketed for Ohio until John Groce left to go to Illinois. That led him to Michigan, where he's blossomed into arguably the best two-guard in the nation.

I can't wait for Saturday (first time I've said that in a while) and see this team get this season started. I love all these new faces, and although it'll be tough to match these last two seasons, I'm very optimistic.

meteoric rise is amazing and a testament to Beilein's eye for talent and development of talent. Levert's trajectory is similar to that of Burke, a generic 3 star recruit becoming a projected top ten lottery pick.

LeVert is a perfect example of the staff's scouting.

Ohio POY, extremel young, looked to be in the middle of a growth spurt and good ball skills.

Outside of his avoidance of drawing contact at the rim, he has no weakness to his game.

watching this team play Wayne State the other night, other than I was excited for the seaon to get going to see how these young kids will play together.

What is clear is that this team, like all teams, need to grow into their roles, find their individual indentities and cope with the up and down nature of confidence in their play.

First night, however, I thought Walton was solid, Albrecht is going to be a go-to floor leader a floor leader. What I like about him are his instincts and unselfishness.

I think Caris is headed for a big year. He demonstrated his complete game against Wayne State and he looked like a pro doing it.

The freshmen on this team give Michigan the kind of versatility to play situationally that Beiein hasn't had since his arrival. He likes playing 7 to  8 guys a game. He may play more guys depending on their growth this season and skillsets. I think this team will lose something in offensive efficiency even while they build a stronger defensive game that can only ignite the kind of transitional opportunities that lead to easy baskets and open threes.

I think this team will struggle in the half court at times and bigger teams will seek to impose their will against Michigans young frontline. It sure would be nice to have McGarry and Horford this year, but then you would not have Aubrey Dawkins, who looks like a great find with a great shot and hops similar to GR !!!.

I don't think we need to be expecting another B1G POY. But he's definitely a 1st team conference player. I'm interested to see how he'll do in the #1 role, one benefit he has is that unlike Stauskas last year...he's the clear #1 from day 1. Nik had to sort things out with GRIII and McGary before claiming his throne.
