While I agree that Beilein's offense doesn't need a true PG, I'm not willing to admit that Burke and Brundidge will come in and lead us to the tourney without seeing them play a game in college. Reports on Burke have been stellar, but that's just open gym.

I'm not expecting us to make the tourney (narrowly miss it IMO) because Beilein hasn't had a good season at UM without solid PG play. '07-'08 we flat out stunk, '08-'09 we made the tourney with solid play from a combination of Lee and Merritt, '09-'10 we stunk again, and last year we were good mainly because of Morris.

will be great.  I'm simply saying that they fit that mold at JB's team.

Michigan will be ranked top 25 and they have leadership in place and have enough talent to overcome Morris absence.  Simply saying that PG play is a correlation for JB's Michigan performace is not true.  There are several factors that contribute to the losing or winning season.

Last year, Michigan were good because they shot the ball better and played much better defense.  Perhaps their improvement in shooting can be correlated to Morris play at PG or maybe JB simply has better shooters at his disposal.

I know there are other factors, but I think PG play is a big one. There aren't many good teams in NCAA basketball that don't have solid PG play. Morris dominated the ball last year and Jordan Morgan benefitted the most from Morris' play. Don't know how he'll do on offense this season. Burke and Brundidge are freshmen, and some freshman take longer to adjust than others. Morris took a whole year, THJ took half a season, and so on and so forth. I'm just being cautious with my expectations this year. By the time Burke takes full rein of the PG job, it might be too late. We'll see.

that PG is important and freshmen doesn't always make an immediate impact.

I disagree that Michigan will miss the tourney.  They return everybody and have enough talent to overcome Morris departure.  Tim Hardaway appears to be ready to take the next step toward stardom.  Evan Smotrycz should be able to take the next step at 4 in which he'll be a tough matchup for any PF trying to guard him.  I expect Jon Horford to make a significant contribution because of his increased size/strength and better understanding of the offense.

Stu Douglass will play at PG and his assist rate is pretty darn good. Michigan always takes care of the ball well and can shoot.

I think that Michigan will finish top 3 in the Big 10 which is more than good enough to get into the NCAA tourney berth.  Their schedule is a lot more kinder than last season. 20 wins and Sweet 16 berth is my expectation for Michigan.

Early returns on Burke have been very good.  From what I hear starting 5 Douglas, Novak, Hardaway, Smotrycz and Morgan.  Burke will take over starting PG at some point with Stu being your 6th man/utility man off the bench.  Horford has put on some serious weight - 30 pounds when talked to him at summer camp. Big leap from Smotrycz......can't wait until hoops season......

The beginning of Big 10 play will be very important with 5 games out of our first 7 at home and the two road games at Indiana and Iowa. Will no doubt be a very important stretch and could determine the outcome of our season.

wait to see the schedule poster! Schedule looks good. Hopefully we do some damage in Maui but I have a feeling we will still be figuring things out rotation-wise which could make a run difficult considering the competition. My faith in Beilein allows me to believe that those kinks will be sorted out by the conference portion of the schedule relatively unscathed.
