Early Enrollments

Submitted by baorao on
I was wondering how the early enrollment works for the 2009 recruits. I have read that Newsome, Beaver and Mike Jones all want/plan to enroll in January.  Are the class limits and total scholarship numbers going to allow all of this to happen? And if not, is it up to the coaching staff to prioritize which recruits (Newsome, Beaver) come in January and which ones wait?

We got a total of 24 or 25 recruits last year, depending on how Morales counts against the total, that part is a little bit hazy. The limit is 25/year. As far as I can recall, Stonum was the only guy who enrolled early, so he technically counts for the 07 class. That puts us down to 23/24. IF Spoon doesn't qualify, then that would drop us down to 22/23, which would make 2-3 early enrollees possible. So we can do 1 for sure right now, the rest are unknown. It's probably up to the coaching staff to prioritize, and if I were them I would bring in Newsome for sure, that way there's no uncertainty to him leaving. #2 would Beaver, as he could also be a flight risk, and the more time on campus to learn the playbook and workout, the better for him. Jones is the lowest priority. Yeah, it would suck if he left, and Yeah, it would be awesome if here were here, but his departure/delay of a semester wouldn't have nearly as much impact.

I thought that early enrollees counted towards EITHER the class before them, or the class they would be in if they came in during the fall. So, we could count one or two toward the '08 class and the other(s) towards '09... Is that not the way it works?

Maybe their parents are paying. I think it is less expensive to send kids to college than to have them at home for the second semester of their senior year. Their logic is that they are too busy spending money to get a job. Boys were expensive, the girls almost put me in the poorhouse.
