4-PEAT!!!!

#9 Michigan needed to win the Big Five Meet at Elevate the Stage in Toledo tonight to win their 4th straight B1G Regular Season Championship. That included beating the favorite in #7 Minnesota along with #24 Maryland, Michigan State and Penn State.

The Wolverines did just that. In fact, they DEMOLISHED the competition.

Michigan broke the program team score record set at the 2000 Big Ten Championships of 197.850

Michigan started the night on Floor Exercise and scored 49.525 as a team: a season high. Sierra Brooks led the Maize & Blue on that event with a 9.950 and won the event title.

Next on Vault, the Wolverines flew high and tied the 6th best Vault score in program history with a 49.600. Both Natalie Wojcik and Abby Brenner tied for the event title with 9.950 scores.

Another season high followed on Uneven Bars as Michigan scored a 49.400 as a team. It was at this moment that breaking the all-time team score at Michigan became very reachable. Natalie Wojcik led Michigan on bars with a 9.950 title winning performance.

On the beam, it was more of the same.

Michigan's super soph Natalie Wojcik set a new career high on Balance Beam with an event-winning score of 9.975--oh so close to a perfect 10--to lead Michigan to a record-setting performance on beam.

The Wolverines scored an outstanding 49.425 on beam to break the all-time team scoring record at Michigan with a 197.950

In addition to winning 3 of the 4 event titles, Natalie Wojcik also won the All-Around competition with a 39.775 score.

Michigan finishes a perfect 9-0 in the B1G standings and wins the B1G Regular Season Championship for the 4th straight season. The regular season title was first awarded in 2013 and Michigan has won 6 of the 8.

Big Five Meet final team scores

  1. #9 Michigan- 197.950
  2. #7 Minnesota- 196.650
  3. Penn State- 196.125
  4. Michigan State- 195.975
  5. #24 Maryland- 195.325

In addition to that I'd like to also mention that Michigan has now beaten Michigan State for the 29th straight time. And #30 will be next month at the B1G Championships.

Michigan is now 11-0 (9-0 B1G) and will return home for a meet on Friday against New Hampshire.

Speaking of the Men's team, freshman Paul Juda was named to the US National Senior Men's team last night after coming in 8th in the all-around, and that old geezer Sam Mikulak (repeat M and NCAA and US National Champion) again won the all-around-- a longtime legend to all the guys competing and all the folks in the stands.  Junior Cameron Bock, a national team member last year, just missed the all-around cut I believe, and not quite sure if his couple of top-five event placings in individual events is enough to bring him back. MGoBlue article below, but haven't yet seen the official US Gymnastics release yet.

Something I enjoyed watching was seeing the vast number of Oklahoma men invited to the meet (current and former students, but still competing under their school affiliation), which is no surprise because of their great tradition in the sport, but the only two current Michigan men invited are part of the team that upset Oklahoma last week (convincingly).  M has some talented youngsters replacing the graduation losses who are progressing past the pre-season expectations (and after the date of the competition invites).
