2002 UM-ND Flashback of TD without ball in endzone

Submitted by wildbackdunesman on

As the Notre Dame WR dropped the ball short of the endzone this weekend I was reminded of the 2002 game in South Bend.

Late in the 2nd quarter Michigan is trailing 9-7, the Irish WR Omar Jenkins tripped and Marlin Jackson is flagged for Pass Intereference.  Then Irish QB Holiday scrambles to the left and fumbles the ball well short of the endzone, but was somehow awarded a TD as he ran into the endzone with his empty arms flailing about for a 16-7 halftime lead.  Notre Dame held on and won the game 25-23.

so he missed it, or ignored it, whatever.  i don't understand the tendency here to jump all over people who aren't as omniscient as you may be.  some people are obviously trolls and deserve what they get.  others are trying to contribute to the community and get smacked when they 'fall short of expectations.'

with all due respect, skip it, or keep it to yourself.

neg away...

if everyone felt the need to post their thoughts that are covered several times over across the site there would be no room for original content, making the board unreadable. this isn't an issue of a stat or a news article being featured a week earlier, it's something that the owner of the blog has mentioned several times over and is on the front page.

it happens all over this board.  i don't monitor every post with bated breath, and i certainly don't remember everything i see on every other post.  i would imagine a search may have been unproductive for the author on such a focused topic.  i don't fault him for posting it;  in fact, he added something with the link.  if i didn't like it, i could just skip it.  imagine how easy that would be.  in fact, most others did skip it.  the few who commented were respectful, even if this was mentioned in 5 words on the front page (i had to go back to find it).

the tone of such comments here, and yours in particular, is somewhat repulsive.  i hate seeing the pirhana attack, and i don't really care to be attacked.  making a comment is one thing.  being obnoxious is simply unnecessary.

but, whatever.  enjoy your message boards.

i loved when RR said his players would never face a "fumble before you cross the goal line" incident because at Michigan they hand the ball to the ref. definitely pointed out a significant sportsmanship difference i saw Saturday

Does anyone have a video link to the carlyle phantom TD. ND apparently doesn't have their own wolverinehistorian (we are spolied by him). I remember being outraged by much during the 02 game but having trouble remembering this play specifically.
