Game Day Weather

Sorry for the delay - I'm in the U.P. and well, we all know how the internet can be here! Welcome home to the Big House! Lots of neat things planned for this homecoming game, but unfortunately, the weather doesn't look that fantastic for you. :( A surface low pressure system will get some help from the upper levels of the atmosphere moving northward, putting us first under a warm front before swinging a cold front through. This means the first round of rain late tonight with temps rising into tomorrow afternoon (hello Summer feels), then dropping temps back down with more rain and possible storms. ***There is a small chance for severe storms tomorrow - it's the smallest chance you can get, but it is there, so make sure to just stay weather aware through the afternoon. Heavy rain and damaging winds will be our main threats. Let's go blue!

Tailgating

Going to bed tonight temps will be in the mid 50s and they're only going up while you sleep! You may have spots of drizzle for this evening, but heavy rain moves in after midnight, meaning you'll want to leave the super cute shoes at home for tailgating and go with the boots! Also give yourself a couple of extra minutes on the roads as some ponding is possible. You'll want the raincoat or poncho, and a tent, or a friend with one, if you're tailgating! Rain will continue, heavy at times, through mid-morning with some spots easily picking up half an inch of rainfall. At least it'll be warm though - if you're up early temps will be in the low 60s! Winds will be lighter, out of the S to SSW at 5-8mph (keeping leaves in motion). By late-morning we'll be in the upper 60s and you'll start to notice the wind picking up a bit to around 10mph. Rain will start to become more scattered toward gametime. As more rain/storms are possible, pack up the tailgate pretty well before walking through those gates!

Kickoff

74 degrees for kickoff! We look to get a break in the rain action midday (hooray!) with just a few spotty showers here and there. You may even catch a few peeks of brightness between the clouds. We are under a warm front, so expect SW winds around 10-15mph for the first half (small branches sway) and temps to keep rising.

Halftime

Woooeee it's a warm one for October football! Cold water please! We're in the upper 70s for the marching band's performance (they're playing hits from two alums known for their work on La La Land & the Greatest Showman) and rapidly approaching 80 during the second half of the game! We'll have a lot of clouds, and this is when scattered showers and storms look to re-develop as a cold front moves in. An isolated strong storm may develop, so we'll have to keep an eye on this one. You may head in to get that drink and have time to use the restroom too if we hit a delay. Winds will still be out of the SW at 15mph, but higher winds are possible in a storm.

Post-Game

More passing showers and possible storms as we finish out the afternoon and head into your evening hours, so keep the poncho/umbrella with you if you're headed out! By dinner-time, winds will have dropped back to around 10mph and temps will fall to around 70 degrees. Winds will continue to shift to the NW, then N, bringing in cooler air, so grab the long sleeve if you're a night owl! We'll drop to the mid 60s by the late-night, and low 60s by last call with a light northerly breeze. More showers are possible as we end the night, lingering into Sunday. The second half of the weekend will be cooler - we'll start the morning in the upper 50s and then only hit the mid 60s for the afternoon. If you came in for the game, travel safely home! Go blue!

CHRISTINA BURKHART IS THE MORNING METEOROLOGIST FOR ABC IN FLINT, MI. SHE GREW UP IN ANN ARBOR AND ASSOCIATES SATURDAYS WITH MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. GO BLUE!

Hopefully we don't have one of those slow games with tons of penalties and tv timeouts. We need to get this game in before the storms come in.

This is what my paranoid mind has been fearing all week.... ponchos, etc., check.

At least it will be a warm-ish rain, not a 40 degree rain.

Actually I'd rather have snow.  Anyway, thanks MGoWeather, we will be ready.
