Game Day Weather

Thank you to all of our Veterans, we can never thank you enough for all you've done! We've been relatively lucky this season when it comes to weather - shhh let's just not talk about the small chance of rain for the Hawaii game and getting nailed with a stadium storm lol. We've had some warm days but we're about to get in on some cold. With temps in the 30s and a wind chill, too, this may be the game where you break out the Winter coat and hand warmers! We have a trough, a stretched out area of low pressure, in place behind a cold front moving through Friday. This will keep our winds out of the NW bringing in chilly air and keeping that lake effect machine going, so spotty mix is possible. Bundle up and get ready to cheer loud as we take on those Huskers! Go blue!

Tailgating

It's a frosty start to our weekend with morning temperatures in the low 30s! Winds will be out of the WNW at 10-15mph, with some gusts into the 20s from time to time during the early morning hours. With winds like this you'd see small waves on the water if you were out on the lake, loose paper will blow about. Winds will also make it feel more like the mid 20s! Maybe the fireball will come out as soon as you get to your tailgate spot :D Pop open that carafe of the hot cider or coffee! We'll warm up to around 40 by lunchtime, a degree or two warmer toward game time. Don't expect to see much sunshine throughout the day, and there's a slim chance to see a little wintry mix. Winds will remain up so make sure you grab the basket with the lid for the napkins or hold onto the foil when grilling! Remember to turn on "Michigan Lights" in the athletics app before heading into the stadium so that you can participate in the 3rd quarter light show! Also keep in mind that when you return to your tailgate after the game it'll be dark, so you might want to pack everything up before leaving your site.

Kickoff

This is a good game to head into the stadium a tad early to catch the Chuters Parachute Demonstration Team jumping into the stadium! Veterans run this operation that completes jumps around the world. The Michigan Army National Guard is also doing a flyover in two CH-47 "Chinook" helicopters! 41 degrees for the kickoff with lots of clouds and the chance for a few raindrops or flurries! Winds will still be out of the WNW at 10-15mph, giving us wind chills in the mid 30s.

Halftime

We'll lose a degree or two by the mid game break. With little sunshine and the winds still up at 10-15mph, we'll definitely feel the chill in the air! Anyone else going for the large hot chocolate and trying to eat your hot dog with your gloves on? The marching band show is a celebration of the 125th anniversary of the band. Reminder the sun will set at a quarter after 5 - good thing you already set up your light show app!

Post-Game

Mid 30s by the end of the game - yeesh hello November games! It'll feel more like 30 thanks to our winds out of the WNW at around 10mph. Winds will stay there for the rest of the night, continuing to add an extra chill. Clouds will begin to decrease, and we'll be partly cloudy into the late night. If you're hitting the town for some celebratory snacks, you'll definitely want that warm coat! Temperatures will fall to the lower 30s by the later nighttime hours, then to the upper 20s by last call. Wind chills by then will be in the low to mid 20s. Although it'll be cold to start, Sunday will be dry with more bright sunshine and highs near 40. Let's go blue, get the win over Wisconsin!!

CHRISTINA BURKHART IS THE MORNING METEOROLOGIST FOR ABC IN FLINT, MI. SHE GREW UP IN ANN ARBOR AND ASSOCIATES SATURDAYS WITH MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. GO BLUE!!
